The town of Koro in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State is now under the control of security agents following the tragic killing of the Onikoro of Koro, Oba Segun Aremu. The monarch was shot dead in his palace, and his wife and two neighbors were abducted on Thursday evening.

According to a resident who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, the area has been cordoned off by policemen, Nigerian Army personnel, and other security agents to ensure the safety of residents. They are conducting stop-and-search operations and have been joined by local vigilante groups and hunters to comb the forests in the town in search of bandits or kidnappers.

In a phone interview, the late monarch’s immediate brother mentioned that the town had been terrorized by bandits for several years, causing many residents to abandon their farms out of fear of being attacked.

The Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, stated in a Friday release that an investigation has been initiated and assured that the monarch’s killers will be apprehended and prosecuted.
