Imo Stae Police Command says its operatives have apprehended a suspected notorious transformer vandal in Nekede, Owerri West Local Government Area, even as the operatives also nabbed two suspected cultists in the same Nekede environs.

This was contained in a press statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Henry Okoye, on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma and made available to The Statesman.

The Statement partly read: “An intense follow-up to a diligently gathered actionable intelligence by operatives of Nekede Divisional Headquarters, in synergy with the local vigilantes led to the arrest of a notorious criminal suspect named, Ewurum Obinna ‘m’ 22yrs, who specializes in vandalizing transformers and stealing electricity armored cables in Nekede and its environs.

“The suspect was arrested in the early hours of 01/03/2024, after a hot chase by the ever-gallant operatives. On interrogation, he confessed to the crime, admitting that his syndicate was responsible for stealing high-tension electricity cables and vandalizing the transformer at Dike Dum Lodge, Trinity Junction and other areas in Nekede”.

The statement disclosed that the suspect has provided useful information to the Police, to assist in their investigation.

It added that effort has been intensified to arrest other suspects who are currently at large, particularly the receivers of the stolen items and make them face the full wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, according to the press statement, in a similar development, operatives of the Nekede Divisional Headquarters, while on intelligence-led visibility patrol along Human Race road, Naze, on Friday, March 1st, at around 4:20pm, intercepted two suspected cultists; Chimezie Chukwukere, ‘m’, 26yrs, and Arinze Victor, ‘m’, 26yrs. who were en route to perfect their criminal intentions.

The statement read: On searching the suspects, one black toy gun, two cutlasses,  black berets with a black axe logo inscribed on it, and other incriminating items were recovered.

“During the investigation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity and are currently assisting the determined operatives in their investigations and efforts to arrest other culprits”.

It further read: “Suspects will certainly be arraigned in court after the conclusion of the investigation.

“While appreciating the operatives for job well done, the Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma charged DPO Nekede to sustain the tempo in cracking down on criminally minded elements within his jurisdiction.

“He affirmed that the Command under his watch will continue to work tirelessly towards stamping out crime and criminality in the State”.
