Mr Fred Ogboji, the Electoral Officer for Jos North Local Government Area, has been suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), over the disappearance of ballot papers during the rerun election in Plateau State on Saturday.

This action was announced in a statement by Mr Isah Idakwo, the state Head of the Department of Electoral Operations, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC), in Jos on Sunday. As a result of the missing House of Representatives ballot papers in 16 polling units, the electoral officer has been instructed to step aside for a proper investigation to take place. Additionally, he has been directed to hand over his responsibilities to Mr Elekwa Onyemauche, the local government supervisor, and the two registration area supervisors of Tudun Wada Kabong and Naraguta B to oversee and complete the remaining process.

Following the discovery of missing ballot papers, INEC rescheduled elections in 16 polling units of Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency on Saturday. Dr Oliver Agundu, the state INEC REC, announced that the election would now take place on Sunday, February 4. Agundu clarified that voting would commence at 9:30 am and conclude at 3:30 pm on the rescheduled day. He mentioned that the commission had detected the disappearance of the ballot papers for 16 polling units in Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency on the eve of the rerun.
