The deputy governor of Imo State, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru has tasked proprietors of private schools in the South East zone to busy themselves with the task of fostering qualitative education and good leadership values in children and youths of the region.

Lady Ekomaru handed out this task in her address while declaring open, a two-day strategic leadership Retreat of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), South East zone, Saturday at the Goshen Retreat Center, New Owerri.

The deputy governor said the 3R administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma has performed creditably in transforming the youths of the state through the Skill-up Imo programme.

She further tasked members of the association to make fostering qualitative education their primary and main focus, to enable them contribute to the success story of education in the South East region.

The deputy governor urged members of the association to set out targets towards becoming much more than what they are presently, by seeking opportunities and partnerships, to support government policies and programmes in the education sector.

In his remarks, the immediate past Commissioner for Education in the state, Prof. Johncliff Nwadike enthused that Imo State is blessed to have the present deputy governor, who he described as a teacher and administrator per excellence.

He made it clear that the state government is proud of the NAPPS in the state, making it clear that as far as internal revenue generation is concerned, the association cannot be relegated to the background.

The immediate past Commissioner for Education used the opportunity to give them some pieces of advice thus, “Make sure your school is well established, provide conducive learning environment for your pupils/students and teachers, employ qualified/competent teachers and pay them well, pay your levies as and when due, and do not partake in “Miracle or Magic exam centers”.

Earlier in her address, the South East National Vice President of the association, Amaka Ezedebego disclosed that it was their maiden strategic leadership retreat in the South East.

She enthused that at the end of the retreat, participants will be equipped with both principles and procedures that will form a framework for a robust decision making and to create a strategy, as well as implement necessary alignment for achieving the vision and mission of the association.

Highlights of the event was the decoration of the deputy governor with the material for the association’s uniform which signified inducting her a member of the association, as well as prayers said for the deputy governor, the government and people of Imo State.
