A 27-year-old man, Rotji Lazarus, from the Gwalameji area of Bauchi, has died after being knocked down by a hit-and-run driver just 24 hours before he was scheduled to travel abroad for a new job.
Eyewitnesses said the tragic incident occurred at night along the Bauchi–Dass Road in Yelwa, near the POWA shops by the Police Barrack.
The vehicle, which had no headlights on, struck Lazarus and fled the scene, heading towards the RafinZurfi axis of the Tafawa-Balewa Road.
Lazarus was a graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, and also held a Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism and Leisure Management from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State.
He was reportedly selling fruit juice close to the accident spot in Yelwa.
In a condolence message, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Professor Titus Saul Ketkukah, sympathized with his Special Adviser, Lazarus Buba, who is the father of the deceased.
The commissioner described the late Rotji Lazarus as a humble, respectful young man known for his gentle nature and obedience to his parents and community.
