The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a suspected internet fraudster, who allegedly killed its operatives during an operation in Anambra State.
It was gathered that the suspect opened fire on the EFCC operatives during an operation on Friday, killing an operative in the process and injuring another.
According to an official of the anti-graft agency, who spoke to our correspondent, the slain officer was buried in Sokoto on Saturday, adding that the suspect is being detained at the EFCC’s zonal headquarters in Enugu State.
“The incident was a very unfortunate one; the dead officer has been buried today in Sokoto; the incident shows the dimension that internet fraud is taking.
“The guy (suspect) has also been detained at our office in Enugu today,” the source said.
The spokesman for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, did not respond to calls put to his mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that a suspect attacked EFCC operatives, resulting in one death and a serious injury to another official.
According to him, the command responded to a distress call on Friday, arrested an unnamed suspect, and recovered a pump-action gun in the Ifite area of the state.
“Anambra police operatives in the early hours of 17/1/2025 responded to a distress call at No. 1 Ekwutife Close, Ifite, and arrested one suspect and recovered one pump-action gun, where operatives of the Economic Financial Crime Commission Operatives on investigation activities were attacked by a suspect, which resulted in the death of one and serious injury to another of the operatives,” the police spokesperson said.
Ikenga further stated that the police have commenced an investigation into the incident, adding that further developments will be communicated.
The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a petition against Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, before the National Judicial Council, accusing her of judicial misconduct in handling his trial.
The petition, dated 13 January 2024, was addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who also serves as the Chairman of the NJC.
Kanu alleged that Justice Nyako’s actions during his trial had caused him “incalculable and continuing damage,” including the deprivation of his liberty.
Justice Nyako is presiding over the seven-count terrorism charges brought against Kanu by the Federal Government.
The petition, supported by an affidavit sworn to by Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, detailed allegations of misconduct, including the judge’s refusal to reinstate Kanu’s bail, which he argued was a violation of the Constitution.
In the petition, Kanu stated, “Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako currently presides over Court 2 of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division.
Her conduct amounts to judicial fraud and non-adherence to the Constitution and established rules of law.
“Her refusal to reinstate my bail despite the Supreme Court’s determination constitutes disobedience to Section 287(1) of the Constitution, which mandates all authorities and courts to enforce decisions of the Supreme Court.”
Kanu further accused the judge of disregarding constitutional provisions and the rule of law, describing her conduct as a violation of his fundamental rights.
The petition read in part, “Wherefore, the complainant prays the Council to discipline Her Lordship, Honourable Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako in accordance with the pertinent rules for disciplining erring judicial officers.”

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed off a Chinese supermarket in Abuja for allegedly selling expired products labeled exclusively in Chinese without the required English translations.
NAFDAC, in a statement yesterday said that the supermarket, located at Azba Mall, 2 Durban Street, Wuse 2, is managed by Chinese nationals who claimed they were in the process of obtaining a NAFDAC license and translating product labels into English, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Director of Investigation and Enforcement of the NDLEA, Pharm. Shaba Mohammed, who led the enforcement, said the action followed credible information about regulatory violations at the supermarket.
“We conducted due diligence to verify the claims,” he said.
Mohammed said the agency will continue its investigation to determine how such products, which violate labeling regulations, were imported into the country without being intercepted.
He added that the investigation would extend to the warehouse where the goods were stored, noting that 90 per cent of the products on the shelves were labeled in Chinese.
“This action aims to protect public safety by preventing the sale of these items,” he emphasised.
“Selling products labeled in foreign languages without English translation is a clear violation of our laws. If a product is labeled in languages such as Arabic, Chinese, or Hindi, it must have an English translation. More than 90 per cent of the products we found were labeled in Chinese.”
He also highlighted concerns about Nigerian customers being unable to read the labels. “Some of the products are expired and still being sold,” he pointed out.
“Even if the supermarket had a Global Listing permit, the products should have been labeled in English. They have not provided any NAFDAC documents for these items. This is unacceptable, which is why we had to seal the supermarket,” he said.
He stressed that NAFDAC will invite operators of the supermarket for a thorough investigation.
“You cannot operate in Nigeria and disregard our laws. This is a country, and we have rules that must be followed,” Mohammed stressed.
John Mahama has taken the oath of office as Ghana’s new president in a ceremony attended by world leaders.
Our correspondent reported that the former President was declared winner of the 2024 presidential election on December 8th after defeating his main opponent, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
Mahama, who served as Ghana’s 12th President between 2011 and 2017, found his way back to power through re-election.
The Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu, had on Monday departed Lagos to attend the inauguration.
The event took place in Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana.
The counsel for the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has advocated community collaboration between citizens and security agencies to combat the growing insecurity in the South-East.
In a press statement yesterday, Ejiofor emphasised the importance of eliminating political compromises, by fostering proactive responses in communities through effective collaboration and collective responsibility to tackle the growing rate of insecurity in the region.
He also commended the security agencies for the arrest of one of the masterminds of the Ihiala killings, describing it as a significant achievement in tackling crime in Anambra.
He urged communities to actively identify and confront the criminal elements to restore peace in the region, adding that the criminals should be treated as such and not as “freedom fighters or defenders of any cause”.
According to him, investigations should inform appropriate and unbiased classifications of offenders, adding that the tendency to prematurely associate every violent crime in the South-East with IPOB/ESN, even before the commencement of investigation and without thorough investigations, weakens citizens’ participation in combating our common enemies who thrive on fear and bloodshed.
The statement read in part, “I watched the trending video of one of the masterminds of the Ihiala massacre, who has been arrested by security agents. Security is indeed a collective responsibility, and we commend our security agents for their significant achievements in tackling crime.
“While appreciating this progress, I humbly offer the following observations for consideration: The self-confessed murderer, responsible for recent heinous acts in Ihiala and its environs, appears to be an indigene of the Ihiala community, not an outsider from any neighbouring state. The accomplices he mentioned in the clip are reportedly residents within the community, rather than hiding in remote forests as previously assumed. This underscores the need for greater community vigilance.
“While publicising this confession helps raise awareness about the culprits terrorizing our land, I believe making it viral at this stage may be premature. These individuals are criminals and should be treated as such. They are not freedom fighters or defenders of any cause – they are agents of chaos, darkness and destruction.”
He added, “The tendency to prematurely but mischievously associate every violent crime in the Southeast with IPOB/ESN, even before the commencement of investigation and without thorough investigations, weakens citizens’ participation in combating our common enemies who thrive on fear and bloodshed.
“Security must not be left solely to government agencies. Communities must actively identify and confront these criminal elements to restore peace. Investigations should inform appropriate unbiased classifications of offenders.
“No true Igbo or Biafran will align with these heartless criminals who kill, maim, and kidnap their own people. They are soulless and should face justice for their actions. Effective collaboration between citizens and security agencies is essential. It eliminates political compromises, fosters proactive responses, and significantly curbs violent crimes in our communities.”
He, however, prayed for the eradication of the bad elements, guided by strong political will.
“May God heal our land and restore peace to Ihiala, Anambra and the entire Southeast, Amen.
“Let us all rise to the challenge, take responsibility for our security, and work together to reclaim the sanctity of our communities. United, we can overcome,” he added.
There appears to be light at the end of the tunnel for the disengaged seafarers of the defunct Nigerian National Shipping Line, NNSL, after 28-years of liquidation as Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, has began their verification over their unpaid benefits
There are strong indications that the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, MWUN, may shut down the nation’s ports, next week over the perceived industrial accidents epidemic in the nation’s ports leading to deaths and various degrees of injuries including permanent disabilities to workers.
It would be recalled that on December 11, 2024, during the Dockworkers’ Day celebration in Lagos, the President-General of MWUN, Prince Adeyanju Adewale, raised the alarm over the hazardous working environment in the ports and called on the federal government to address the unsafe working conditions by ordering terminal operators to provide protective wears among others to employees.
Two weeks later, on December 25, 2024, an industrial accident at Five Star Logistics, Lagos, during vessel operations at berth nine, claimed the life of a Dockworker, Kazeem Adeshina
Earlier in December 2024, an industrial accident at PTOL, Port Harcourt, Rivers State left Uwem Cyprian Ekeke with permanent disability losing his entire fingers.
According to MWUN, among others, recent serious avoidable industrial accidents included the “one involving Opeyemi Black on October 6, 2018 at Josepdam Port Services Terminal, Lagos, where he lost three of his fingers. Another accident was at PTOL, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, involving Kingsley Akin where he permanently lost his legs in 2022.”
Following the Christmas Day death of Kazeem Adeshina, MWUN on December 27, issued a 14 ultimatum to the federal government to address the Union’s safety concerns failing which members would down tools and embark on strike.
MWUN’s ultimatum to the government through the Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, signed by Oniha Erazua, (a Deputy Secretary-General) on behalf of the Union’s Secretary General, Felix Akingboye, expires early next week.
The Union has threatened that members would down tools and withdraw their services if, at the expiration of the ultimatum, its demands are not met.
Among others, the ultimatum reads, “The incident of incessant accidents in our ports during stevedoring operations is getting alarming. This has become worrisome because of the number of reports we get from all the ports, terminals, and Jetties. A quick investigation into the remote causes of these accidents indicates that Safety and health protocols are not put in place and where in place, are not enforced by all the Stevedores. This is further heightened by the negligence of Stevedores engaged by terminal operators who often renege on paying compensations to these accident victims.
“In cognizance of the above scenario, we have written several letters to terminal operators to implement and enforce safety protocols to no avail. Indeed, we have cited the ISPS code, the ILO Convention on safety and Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the need for port/stevedoring operators to put them in place and enforce it due to the hazardous nature of dock operations.
“Consequent to the foregoing, the Union demands for the enforcement of safety standards in the Port/Stevedoring operations. Specifically, we seek your interventions in enforcing the provision and maintenance of workplaces’ equipment and methods of work that are safe and without risk of injury to health; Provision of information, training and supervision necessary to ensure the protection of workers against risks of accidents or injury to health arising from or in the course of their employment; provision of personal protective equipment and protective wears for employees, including life-saving appliances such as communication radio, safety boots, nose guards, helmets, working gear and so on.
“Provision of sufficient safety personnel to adequately man point of operation, berth, stacking areas, warehouse and so on; Provision and maintenance of suitable and adequate first-aid and rescue facilities for example ambulances and provision of safe means of access to ships, holds, staging, equipment and lifting appliances.
“MWUN will not sit idly and watch the avoidable decimation of our members through Sherlock stevedores whose only interest is capital and profit and the detriment of the life and safety of our members.
“Consequently, the Union issues a 14-day ultimatum starting from the date of this letter within which period we urge that you enforce and engage the stevedore on improving the safety and health of their employees. At the expiration of this ultimatum, we will be forced to withdraw the services of our members in all ports, jetties, terminals and oil and gas platforms nationwide.
“We are assured that your expeditious intervention will bring improvements to safety standards regarding stevedoring/port operations and ameliorate the incidences of accidents in our ports. Whilst looking forward to your urgent intervention, accept the assurance of our utmost regard and continued cooperation.”
The Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to order for the dismantling and withdrawal of all military checkpoints and road blocks in the Southeast even as they call on the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to cede the presidency of the apex Igbo cultural organization to Rivers State, warning against hand-picking of any individual.
The group made their feelings known to journalists in Umuahia on Tuesday, through their President, Mrs Nneka Chimezie, after a general meeting/inauguration of the group in Umuahia, Abia State. She said the numerous road blocks have made the zone look like a war zone.
She disclosed that the checkpoints have become humiliating for pedestrians and motorists plying the highways in the region as people who use the roads are often subjected to interrogations, raising their hands while crossing the checkpoints, beatings reiterated that the region should not be subjected to this level of humiliation.
She also noted that the phrase, “unknown gun men” should not be used because, the gun-men are known, adding that they were imported to the Southeast by enemies of Ndigbo to destabilize it.
Mrs Chimezie wondered why a former militant leader, Asari Dokobu, who openly said that he was contracted by the authorities to destroy the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) in the Southeast was left to walk around as a free man while the zone is being destabilized by the so called unknown gunmen.
“This character came to a national TV to say that his group is fighting alongside the military in some part of Imo State and nobody has arrested him for questioning, also no one has even made efforts to stop the activities of his men, yet, we’re looking for the unknown gunmen.
“Are they not the unknown gunmen? Why should such a character be left to move around without questioning by the authorities? She asked, even as she used the opportunity to call for the immediate and unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB.
Speaking on Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s continued detention; Mrs Chimezie noted that the situation has worsened the security situation in the zone. She therefore solicited for the reestablishment of community and village vigilantes across the zone.
“We recall that at the beginning of the invasion of the Southeast, vigilantes in many villages and communities were disbanded as the military claimed it wanted to fight insecurity singlehandedly. Now, it has proven that it cannot do it alone as the security situation has continued to worsen.
“I advocate we go back to the community vigilantes to safeguard our places and entire southeast”, Mrs. Chimezie noted.
She said for equity and justice the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo should be ceded to Rivers State, as she warned against handpicking of any individual by some persons to fill the vacancy on January 10, 2025.
“The current Ohanaeze Presidency should go to Igbos in Rivers State; unless they come out clearly to say that they’re not Igbo, then it should return to Abia State”, she reiterated.
Speaking on why IWA was establish, she revealed that the group was formed to promote Igbo language and culture, train Igbo children on decent behaviours as well as make them speak the Igbo language and practice the culture in addition to ensuring that women and children in Igbo land maintain a lifestyle of purity, honesty, respectability and uprightness as depicted in the culture.
In her lecture, Prof Mrs Nkechinyere Ohaike of the National Institute of Nigerian Languages, Aba (NINLAN) warned the Igbo not to allow their the Igbo language go extinct in the near future as predicted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) she admonished Igbo women to always teach their children their language and culture.
Prof Ohaike, who is a professor of Translation Studies in Igbo Language called for institution of scholarships for students studying the Igbo language as well as inauguration of dancing and citation competitions in the states across Igbo land. She also suggested the making of the language a compulsory subjects in primary and post primary schools in Igbo land.
Contributing, the chairman of the occasion, Professor Godwin Asomugha condemned the practice whereby parents in Igbo land prevent their children from speaking or practicing the Igbo language and culture, described such behaviour as out of order.

Governor Hope Uzodimma has signed into law the Imo State 2025 Appropriation Bill hiked by the State’s Assembly to N807b from N756b, pledging full and faithful implementation of the budget.
Signing the bill into law at the New Exco Chambers, Government House Owerri, Monday, Governor Uzodimma noted that what the lawmakers did by increasing the original figures he presented before them few days ago shows an alignment between the Executive and the legislature in providing essential services to the people.
The Governor who further expressed his satisfaction over the expeditious passage of the appropriation bill and tinkering with the original numbers, said that what had been done by the Assembly shows that the lawmakers have challenged the executive to commence work without delay on the 2025 budget.
The appropriation signed into law still maintains the Governor’s consistency in allocating huge chunk of the budget to capital expenditure in 2025 to the tone of Six Hundred and Ninety-Four Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Six Million, Forty-One Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty Naira (N694,786,041,220) or 86.09 per cent of the total sum.

the Ministry of Education, N49,460,000,000 or 7.1% while the Ministry of Health gets N31,933,234,000 or 4.65%.
Governor Uzodimma’s short remarks after signing the appropriation bill reads: “I have just signed into law the 2025 Imo State Appropriation Bill, which now has the force of law and serves as the financial operational manual for the state.
“While I initially proposed a budget of Seven Hundred and Fifty-Six Billion Naira for the year, the State House of Assembly, in its wisdom, adjusted it to N807 billion. It shows the alignment between the Executive and the Legislature in providing essential infrastructure and services to the people of the State.
“The total 2025 budget, as amended by the Assembly and signed into law, is Eight Hundred and Seven Billion, Eighty-Eight Million, Forty-One Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty Naira (N807,088,041,220).
“Capital allocation: Six Hundred and Ninety-Four Billion, Seven Hundred and Eighty-Six Million, Forty-One Thousand, Two Hundred and Twenty Naira (N694,786,041,220) (86.09%)
“Recurrent allocation: One Hundred and Twelve Billion, Three Hundred and Two Million Naira (N112,302,000,000) (13.91%)
“I commend the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for the expeditious passage of the Appropriation Bill and for increasing the initial budget estimate. This patriotic gesture challenges the executive to commence work immediately.
“As outlined in my recent budget speech, this Budget of Expanded Economic Opportunities is designed to drive the economic transformation of our state through improved infrastructure and industrialization. The umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has said the year 2025 should be devoted to fighting insecurity, corruption and other challenges hindering the development of the country.
In a New Year message by the national chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, the IPAC said it was only by the grace of God that Nigerians survived the socio-economic hardship of 2024.
“It was unprecedented in the history of our dear nation. We are grateful to God for His mercies, protection and care which have reinforced our hope and faith in consolidating our democracy and building a strong, united, stable, progressive, equitable, prosperous and just society in 2025.”
He said as the umbrella body of all the registered political parties in Nigeria, IPAC would continue to lead from the front to ensure good governance and the well-being of the people.
He added that the council would vigorously pursue its Peer Review Mechanism set up to evaluate the milestones achieved by governors in the implementation of the sustainable development goals in the states, the legislators on effective, vibrant and robust representations, oversight functions and law-making, as well as monitor progress of the recent financial autonomy granted to the 774 Local Governments in the country as the government closest to the people.
“Council was at the vanguard for financial autonomy to the third tier of government as it is for the scrapping of the State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs) that conduct local government polls which turn out to be charades and mockery of the nation’s electoral process as various SIECs have become rubber stamps of the governors who appointed them; and demands that INEC be empowered to conduct all elections in Nigeria as it has the capacity to do so. IPAC’s comprehensive proposal for the ongoing Constitution and Electoral Act Amendments has since been submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and inclusion,” he said.
He promised that the council would also intensify its roundtable series where crucial national issues are identified, assemble competent resource persons and stakeholders to chart the way forward that will deepen our democracy.
He said to eliminate the fielding of candidates with questionable credentials for elections, IPAC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chartered Institute of Forensics and Certified Fraud Investigators (CIFCFIN) on 28th August 2024.
“This ensures that every document, credential, and piece of information associated with candidates is rigorously examined for authenticity and accuracy to prevent undue disqualification of candidates who won elections with fraudulent credentials by the court. Often the candidates with the second highest votes take their positions, who are not elected by the people, thus depriving the political parties that sponsored them the much needed victory. This will further sanitise and strengthen the nation’s electoral process. Council will implement it in 2025 as it continues to champion free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive and peaceful elections,” he said.

Russia carried out “a series of air strikes” in Syria on Sunday as rebels advanced after seizing Aleppo, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
Twelve people were killed in a strike on a hospital in Aleppo, while a strike inside the north-western city of Idlib killed eight civilians and wounded more than 50, SOHR said.
Warplanes also struck rural parts of Idlib and Hama where the group leading the rebel offensive “has recently taken control”, it added.
The Syrian government has meanwhile lost control of Aleppo for the first time since the country’s civil war began, the observers told news agency AFP.
The surprise offensive by opposition forces, which began on Wednesday, marks the most significant fighting in Syria’s civil war in recent years.
It has been led by the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), as well as allied factions backed by Turkey.
More than 300 people, including at least 20 civilians, have been killed so far, according to SOHR.
Russian strikes hit Aleppo for the first time since 2016 on Saturday as rebel fighters swept into Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city, the observers said.
The Russian air force played a significant role in keeping President Bashar al-Assad in power during the peak of the civil war.
SOHR reported five Russian air strikes in a refugee camp in Idlib early on Sunday, a north-western city in which HTS is the dominant force.
SOHR later reported four strikes on Aleppo University Hospital, with eight civilians among the 12 dead, with other parts of the city also targeted.

The White Helmets, a network of volunteers on the ground in Syria, responded to strikes in Idlib
Opposition fighters seized nearly all of the city from the government on Sunday, SOHR told AFP – except for the neighbourhoods controlled by Kurdish forces.
Syria’s military withdrew from the city to prepare a counteroffensive.
Meanwhile, the rebels pushed south from Aleppo into several towns in the countryside near Syria’s fourth largest city, Hama, according to SOHR.
Syria’s defence ministry said the force had “reinforced [its] defensive lines” in the region with troops, rocket launchers and heavy military hardware.
“Joint Syrian-Russian warplanes” have intensified precise strikes on rebel positions, killing and wounding dozens, it said in a statement.
It added its troops had recaptured several towns that had been seized and prevented rebels from advancing, and claimed they were fleeing the region.

Fighters opposed to President Bashar al-Assad seized Aleppo without meeting much resistance on Saturday, observers said
The situation poses “severe risks to civilians and [has] serious implications for international peace and security”, the United Nations (UN) special envoy for Syria warned.
Geir O Pederson said he had repeatedly warned of the dangers of “mere conflict management rather than conflict resolution” in Syria.
He called the present conflict a “mark of collective failure” to work towards a ceasefire in the country, an aim the UN Security Council endorsed in 2015, demanding “urgent and serious political engagement” to this end.
Speaking on Saturday, President Assad vowed to “defend [Syria’s] stability and territorial integrity in the face of all terrorists and their backers”.
“[The country] is capable, with the help of its allies and friends, of defeating and eliminating them, no matter how intense their terrorist attacks are,” his office quoted him as saying.
Iran’s top diplomat said the country, which has long been an ally of President Assad, “firmly support[s] the Syrian government and army”.
Foreign minister Abbas Aragchi issued the statement ahead visiting Damascus on Sunday to discuss the offensive.

The civil war, which has left around half a million people dead, began in 2011 after the Assad government responded to pro-democracy protests with a brutal crackdown.
The conflict has been largely dormant since a ceasefire agreed in 2020, but opposition forces have maintained control of the north-western city of Idlib and much of the surrounding province.
Idlib sits just 55km (34 miles) from Aleppo, which itself was a rebel stronghold until it fell to government forces in 2016.
HTS, which has led the latest offensive, was regarded as one of the most effective and deadly of the groups fighting the Assad government and was already the dominant force in Idlib.
Rebel troops in Syria celebrate taking ‘majority’ control of Aleppo
The rebels took control of Aleppo’s airport and dozens of nearby towns, according to SOHR.
They also announced an overnight curfew which came into force at 17:00 local time on Saturday (14:00 GMT).
SOHR also said the rebel fighters had advanced south toward Hama and that the Syrian army had withdrawn.
But a military source quoted in Syrian state media on Saturday night disputed this claim.
The Syrian army said rebels had launched “a broad attack from multiple axes on the Aleppo and Idlib fronts” and that battles had taken place “over a strip exceeding 100km (60 miles)”.
Dozens of its soldiers have been killed, it said.
A US spokesperson said Syria’s “reliance on Russia and Iran”, along with its refusal to move forward with a 2015 UN Security Council peace plan, had “created the conditions now unfolding” in the country.
Pictures showed the roads leading out of Aleppo jammed with cars on Saturday as people tried to leave, and smoke rising out of the city’s skyline.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as the emerging future political “General” of the state, despite the political challenges his administration has faced since taking office.
Jonathan noted that while political antagonism is common for leaders, the challenges confronting Governor Fubara will ultimately forge him into a “General” in politics.
Speaking at a chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, the former President appealed to the people of Rivers to continue supporting Governor Fubara, emphasizing the importance of peace for the state’s development.
Dr. Jonathan encouraged Fubara to remain undeterred by political opposition, assuring him that the current struggles would help shape him into a stronger leader.
“I know you (Gov. Fubara) are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet. I don’t like to say certain things. This is the first time you are holding a top political office. You will face a lot. But remember, nobody becomes a General without fighting wars. Whatever challenges you face now are preparing you to be a General in politics. With your commitment and the support I see from the people of Rivers, God will see you through,” Jonathan stated.
He further emphasized the critical position of Rivers State, warning that any destabilization in the state would negatively affect the entire country.
“We want a peaceful Rivers State because it is the center of the Niger Delta. If we create problems in Rivers State, we create a crisis in the Niger Delta, which is detrimental to our economy. We need a peaceful state, and we want the Governor to remain calm and focus on his work,” Jonathan added.
In his response, Governor Fubara accepted the chieftaincy title of Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land, bestowed upon him by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers. He expressed gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging strong support from both the Etche and Ikwerre communities.
At the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition in Nihi Community, Fubara assured the people that his administration would continue to focus on projects and services to improve their standard of living.
“You are aware that we recently awarded road projects in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities. We will ensure these roads are completed, and in the next few months, we will come here to commission them,” he said.
The Governor also pledged to maintain law and order in the state, stating, “We will continue to follow the rightful path and reach our promised land. Thank you for your patience and support.”
Governor Fubara acknowledged former President Jonathan’s unwavering support during challenging times, stating, “He has stood by me through this difficult period of our administration.”
Chairman of the occasion, Senator John Azuta Mbata, congratulated Eze Nwala for his 10 years of meritorious service as monarch, urging traditional rulers in the state to uphold law and order, ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
AS the deadline given to states to implement the new N70,000 minimum wage expired on Sunday, the organized has said that any state council that fails to comply with the directives will be sanctioned.
This is as the national President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has said that there is no planned national strike today rather all the actions would take place in state Councils that defaulted.

The letter signed by NLC General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja said: “Recall that NEC of 8th November, 2024 in Port Harcourt directed that industrial action to compel the implementation of the new national minimum wage should commence in any state that has not complied by the end of November, 2024.”
It directed public servants in the affected 14 states and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, to commence industrial action from Monday, December 2 for failing to comply with the N70,000 new minimum wage.
The affected stateswere : Abia, AkwaIbom, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, FCT, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara.
However, the NLC President at a Media Parley organized by the Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria, LACAN, had hinted that some Council Chairman in collaboration with some defaulting governors were working behind the scene to sabotage the efforts to ensure that all states fully implement payment of the new minimum wage.
Comrade Ajaero also noted that certain states have made progress, with some meeting their obligations by the deadline.
However, he expressed concerns in others, especially Zamfara, because the government had allegedly failed to set up a committee to address the matter.
He said, “It’s a policy pronouncement. States know what they are supposed to do by a specific date. If they fail, actions will follow.
“We cannot call for a nationwide strike where some states have already complied. Instead, we are collating reports from all states to determine the next steps.
“There are peculiarities in each state; in some, the entire executive is ready to act, but the leadership is reluctant due to its closeness to the government. In others, workers need assistance to address unique challenges.
“We have established a national committee to review these peculiarities and provide the necessary support.”
The congress further warned that any attempts by state governments to ignore the directive would be met with decisive action, potentially leading to strikes in non-compliant states.
Citing an example of Zamfara state which only started payment of N30,000 minimum wage after the negotiations on the new minimum wage of N70, 000 was concluded, Ajaero said the reduction in the duration of minimum wage review would further help to address such attitudes by some states governments.
He said: “The next three years, some states will not pay minimum wage. I give you an example with one state, Zamfara State. It was after we had negotiated the N70,000 minimum wage that they started paying N30,000. They were paying N18,000 for the five-year duration of the N30,000 minimum wage.
“That was one of the reasons why we had to reduce the minimum wage review to three years. In the next five years, this N70,000 will not be able to buy tissue paper so I think there is a need for constant review of it to move with the economic realities of the moment.”
Commenting on the December 1 minimum deadline and strike notice to states yet to implement the new minimum wage, Ajaero clarified that although the situation was closely being analysed given the peculiarities of states including the different salary payment schedules, the action by labour would assume a state-by-state approach.
“We have to look at them one by one, take a state-by-state approach It’s not a general strike, It’s not a general issue.
“You can’t go and strike in states where they have complied. We’ll have a committee that is getting daily report on this and to advise them.
So It’s not like a strike called by the NLC at the national that you see everybody go on strike, No.”
When contacted on Sunday for an update on the directives to some state Councils that the government is in default and whether the strike would hold, the NLC President said: “There is no national strike, you should get updates from states, don’t expect anybody to sit from Abuja and be telling you what’s happening in Katsina or any other states, no.
“We gave them directives, some of them even as at today (yesterday), are making last minutes efforts to give a semblance that they have complied or they are complying, some are trying to comply and all that. So these issues will come from the states and not from me.
“I have a committee working, I can’t be talking when they are carrying out their action, when they finish, they will send a report to me, so I can’t be evaluating them now.”
On the allegation that some leaders of State Councils, may Sabotage the directives, Ajaero said, “Sabotage is sabotage anywhere. Organisations have their rules. In all the organisations that I know, sabotage is treated based on the rules of that organisation if established.”
Also speaking on the number of State Councils in default at the expiration of the deadline, the head of information and public affairs of the NLC, Comrade
Benson Upah, said it would be difficult to know the number because some states had made last minutes efforts to beat the deadline.
He said, “It will be difficult to know the number of states in default now because some states scramble to implement before the deadline.”
On the issue of sabotage by some State Council Chairmen, he said, “All I know is that state Councils have been directed to implement this decision and they are bound to do so. Don’t forget that they are the direct beneficiaries of this decision.
“Any state Council found defaulting, there will be consequences because we are not out play.”
Asked what should be consequences, he simply said, “just wait any state council that fails to comply, you will hear.”
President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to eliminating security threats and violent crimes in Nigeria.
He also commended the Armed Forces for successfully hosting the 2nd African Military Games in Abuja.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu delivered the commendation during the closing ceremony of the competition at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Saturday night.
He praised the military for showcasing the true essence of unity and camaraderie, which transcends borders and strengthens the ties that unite the African continent as one family.
According to Tinubu, the event was more than a display of athletic prowess; it was a celebration of collaboration, excellence, and the militaries’ collective determination to address shared challenges.
“The games we have witnessed are a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when we unite, not just as soldiers, but as guardians of a shared destiny. This platform offers opportunities to exchange ideas and explore innovative solutions to our challenges,” Tinubu said.
He emphasised the importance of unity and the strength that comes from collaboration, adding that events like the African Military Games promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
As the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, Tinubu pledged to pursue stabilising solutions across the continent, describing it as a duty owed to the people.
He called for deeper ties among nations and a stronger sense of camaraderie among military personnel to achieve success.
“The spirit of collaboration exemplified by this edition of the African Military Games is significant, coming 22 years after the inaugural event. I commend the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the OSMA President, Major General AbdullahiMaikano, for their leadership and dedication in making this event a success.”
He also congratulated delegates from participating countries for their sportsmanship and professionalism.
“You have shown not only your military expertise but also your extraordinary abilities as sportsmen and women,” Tinubu said.
President-elect Donald Trump on Monday threatened to impose a 100 per cent tariff on the BRICS group of nations if they undermined the US dollar.
“We require a commitment… that they will neither create a new BRICS currency nor support any other currency to replace the mighty US dollar, nor they will face 100 per cent tariffs,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website. He referred to the grouping that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and others.
The statement follows a BRICS summit held last month in Kazan, Russia, where the member countries discussed enhancing non-dollar transactions and strengthening local currencies.
The BRICS group has grown significantly since its inception in 2009 and now includes nations such as Iran, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. Collectively, the coalition accounts for a substantial minority of the world’s economic output.
At the Kazan summit in October 2024, Moscow secured a joint declaration encouraging the “strengthening of correspondent banking networks within BRICS and enabling settlements in local currencies in line with the BRICS Cross-Border Payments Initiative.”
However, at the close of the summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin
noted that little progress had been made on launching a potential competitor to the Belgium-based SWIFT financial messaging system.
“As for SWIFT and any alternatives, we have not created and are not creating any alternatives,” Putin told reporters after the summit.
He added, “As for a unified BRICS currency, we are not considering that question at the moment.”
Trump has vowed to pursue a protectionist agenda, threatening substantial tariffs on both neighbours and rivals.
If BRICS countries continue with their plans, Trump warned, they “should expect to say goodbye to selling into the wonderful US economy.
“They can go find another ‘sucker!’ There is no chance that the BRICS will replace the US dollar in international trade, and any country that tries should wave goodbye to America,” he wrote.
PUNCH Online reports that the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eche Abu-Obe, confirmed that Nigeria had joined BRICS as a partner nation.
“Yes, it is true that Nigeria has joined BRICS as a partner,” he said.
Nigeria’s inclusion as a partner country aligns with previous statements made in November 2023 by Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar, who expressed the country’s intention to join BRICS as a full member within the next two years, leveraging its large economy and population.
Dr. Josef Onoh, a brother-in-law of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, has faulted General Yakubu Gowon’s claim that he reconciled with the ex-Biafra leader, the Ikemba Nnewi.
Reactions have trailed Gowon’s claim that he reconciled with the late Biafra leader, since Saturday Sun published excerpts of Mike Awoyinfa and DimgbaIgwe’s interview with the elder statesman.
Onoh said that there was no such reconciliation, instead, what happened was a chance meeting during a condolence visit by Gowon when his father and Ojukwu’s father-in-law, Chief C.C. Onoh passed on.
According to Onoh, the former head of state’s narration about his purported reconciliation with Ojukwu in London was not as correct as he recounted it. He stated with exactitudes that he was a witness to the chance meeting between Gowon and Ojukwu both in Enugu and in London.
To Onoh, Gowon substituted a condolence visit with reconciliation, noting that because Gowon has started telling “lies,” he would need subsequent lies to go on with his crooked narratives.“To Gowon I say ‘The dead don’t talk,’ but I’m privileged to have heard him talk while alive. When you lie, you have to tell another lie to cover the first lie, then another lie, and so on. It is so much easier to tell the truth than it is to lie because I was there and the truth shall set you free.”
The 2023 presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart from the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi have dismissed planning for the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku and Obi made the remark against the backdrop of their breakfast meeting in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital.
A video had emerged of both men seated together at a dining table, ready to have their meal.
However, Atiku’s spokesman, Paul Ibe said the meeting was a reunion of two old friends.
Speaking with journalists about Saturday’s meeting, Ibe said: “Let us not jump the gun. The fact is that Obi accepted to be the keynote speaker at the 20th anniversary of AUN and the 16th Founder’s Day, which was a milestone. Obi is part of that celebration.
“The university was founded by Atiku Abubakar, who was more like his host. But people think it is because of politics. We all know our friends. The truth is that politics cannot separate friends.
“So Atiku invited him to breakfast and from there, they went for the programme. I think that is what happened.”
On his part, Obi’s media aide, Ibrahim Umar, said the meeting had no political undertone.
“There was nothing like that. They just invited him (Obi) to deliver a speech there. It has nothing to do with politics. Of course, you know people will always assume things,” he said.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has responded to a revelation by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), that he pleaded with the late General Sani Abacha to spare Obasanjo’s life during Abacha’s regime.
The Abacha government imprisoned Obasanjo over an alleged coup plot to overthrow the regime.
Over the weekend, at the Plateau Interdenominational Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival held at the 10 Commandments Prayer Altar in Du, Jos South LGA, Gowon disclosed his behind-the-scenes efforts to save Obasanjo.
Gowon expressed joy that Obasanjo not only survived the ordeal after spending three years in prison but also became Nigeria’s president in 1999, following Abacha’s death in June 1998.
In his reaction, Obasanjo acknowledged that many people had worked for his release then and said he made efforts to thank them afterwards. However, he was not aware of Gowon’s involvement.
From Friday to Sunday, the event was attended by prominent personalities, including Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, former governors Jonah Jang, Joshua Dariye, Boni Haruna (Adamawa State), and other dignitaries.
Obasanjo said, “I want to acknowledge my boss, General Yakubu Gowon. Yesterday he made a revelation and I have to thank you specifically for that. When I came out of prison, I had the opportunity to thank friends, inside and outside the country who contributed to appeal and pray for my release from prison.
“And I went round the world thanking those that have been appealing and praying for my release from prison. But I did not know that you wrote a personal letter for my release until you said it yesterday; I thank you for that.”
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) yesterday distanced itself from the second Biafra declaration in Finland.
IPOB described the declaration as a shambolic scam and a charade, stating that only the declaration made by the late OdimegwuOjukwu can stand.
Emma Powerful, the spokesman for IPOB, disclosed this in a statement he signed.
He explained that IPOB’s mission is to restore the sovereignty of the declared Biafra Independence, which was forced to surrender through genocide by the Nigerian and British governments.
The statement reads: “The Noble family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), led by the great and indomitable leader, MaziNnamdiOkwuchukwuKanu, wishes to disassociate ourselves from the purported Biafra second declaration by an infamous no-name group. The so-called declaration is a scam. There is no room for another Biafra declaration besides the one our eternal leader, Dim OdimegwuOjukwu, declared in 1967.
“IPOB wishes to commend responsible media organizations and social media bloggers in Nigeria and the diaspora that didn’t give attention to the mockery of the Biafra struggle by infiltrators in Finland and elsewhere.
“However, it is imperative to inform the international community, Biafrans, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom that Biafra was declared by our eternal leader, late Dim ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu, in 1967.
“IPOB is calling for a UN-supervised referendum for Biafrans so that the declared sovereignty can be restored. Biafra cannot be declared for the second time by anyone. It is sad that some unscrupulous elements, who failed in their mission to infiltrate and destroy IPOB, went into the jamboree they claimed was Biafra’s second declaration outside the Biafra territory.
“Biafrans, and IPOB in particular, are happy that the fanfare the infiltrators had in Finland this weekend was ignored by all responsible media organizations. Those involved in the event in Finland were among the sponsors of insecurity in the Southeast Region.
“Their agenda is to destabilize the Southeast, divide the people, and divert the attention of Biafrans and those sympathetic to the Biafra struggle by making the genuine Biafra struggle unattractive to our people. They failed woefully.
“In the past, the leader of IPOB, MaziNnamdiKanu, was pressured by enemies within and without to declare Biafra for the second time, but he refused. MaziNnamdiKanu is a brilliant freedom fighter who understands the seasons and times and the rules governing self-determination. When those enemies within and without failed to push MaziNnamdiKanu and IPOB into an untimely and unnecessary Biafra declaration, they joined a Nigerian government agent brought from Finland to destroy the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). They had already celebrated their foolishness, which they called Biafra declaration, in Finland last weekend.
“IPOB is an informed movement championing the restoration of Biafra sovereignty and freedom and cannot involve itself in self-deception or scam people with the Biafra project. All those involved in the illusion and self-deception called the Biafra declaration in Finland are criminals, uninformed, and fake agents.
“Only fools rush where angels dread to enter. The Biafra struggle is a thing of the spirit because blood has been shed and sacrificed for this ultimate project. Any person, nation, or group of people who dare to obstruct the Biafra restoration will pay a heavy price.
“The autopilot criminals making money from some of their ignorant followers to make international mockery of the Biafra struggle will all pay a price. IPOB will not come after them, but the blood of the fallen heroes of Biafra will chase and hunt them down.
“Therefore, Biafrans, friends of Biafra, and lovers of Biafra freedom must understand that the shambolic declaration of Biafra Independence in the faraway land of Finland is a scam. Those who funded infiltrators that gathered for a picnic in Finland have been scammed.
“Now that the infiltrators and agents of provocateurs have declared their independence in Finland, we hope they will enjoy their freedom and stop interfering with IPOB’s peaceful struggle and engagement for the restoration of the Biafra Nation.
“Again, we reiterate that our eternal leader, Dim ChukwuemekaOdumegwuOjukwu, declared Biafra Independence in Biafra Land in 1967. He and other Biafran men and women fought gallantly in an unprepared genocidal war to defend the declared territory of Biafra for three years.
“General Dim Ojukwu had the support and backing of Ndigbo, Biafrans in general, and the Biafra Consultative Forum to declare for Biafra Independence at that time. Heaven declared Biafra once, though short-lived, and on the strength of that declaration, IPOB stands to demand a UN-supervised referendum for Biafrans to decide their political future.
“Therefore, the idiocy exhibited by a group of nincompoops in Finland recently in the name of the Biafra declaration is trash. It was a welcome development that they were ignored by the media and public because they did not exist.
“This press release is to keep the record straight and to disassociate IPOB and MaziNnamdiKanu from the idiocy exhibited in Finland called the Biafra second declaration. The Finland Biafra declaration is a pure scam by some agent provocateurs.”
Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has canvassed the setting up of a special fund for agricultural research to combat food insecurity in Nigeria and diversify the economy away from oil.
He said since it has been established that the future of agriculture in Nigeria depends on research, technology, and innovation, there is an urgent need to put in place,” a dedicated specialised research fund to aid research in universities and other tertiary institutions.”
Uzodimma, who spoke in Umuahia weekend as the guest lecturer, during the 12th Convocation ceremony of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, suggested that the fund be called Tertiary Agricultural Education Research Fund (TAETFUND).
The governor who was repented by the Commissioner for tertiary education, Professor Victor Nwachukwu, said a law should be made for a mandatory contribution of one per cent of the profit of all agro based corporate bodies, infrastructure and industries to the fund, while federal and state governments should contribute an equal amount from the tax to the fund.
He listed other potential contributors to the fund as regional organisations like OhanaezeNdigbo, Afenifere, and Arewa to facilitate research in agriculture to avert food crises.
Uzodimma, who spoke on the topic, “AGRICULTURE AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN A DIVERSIFIED ECONOMY:A VISION OF RENEWED HOPE THROUGH TOWN AND GOWN ENTREPRENEURIAL PARTNERSHIPS,”
noted that the future of agriculture in Nigeria ” depends on our ability to keep innovating, keep researching and keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible.”
He recalled that great countries in the world that are self-sufficient in agriculture, like America, relied heavily on research and innovation to achieve the feat.
“China and India have seen rapid mechanisation in recent decades leading to huge gains in productivity. Brazil has emerged as a major agricultural exporter, thanks to its research into tropical farming. So. Nigeria can not stand still. We need ways to innovate and push forward,” he declared.
He was of the opinion that any hope of using agriculture to diversify the country’s economy depended on the quality of research and associated funding from both the government and corporate organisations.
Uzodimma, however, contended that universities of agriculture, such as Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, must lead the way through research and innovation for improved agricultural revolution.
According to him ,Nigerian universities ought to collaborate with their foreign counterparts and learn from them the required techniques for improved productivity.
The guest lecturer particularly charged Michael Okpara University of Agriculture to avail itself of the opportunity provided by the Agribusiness Incubation Centre in the university to teach local farmers the new method of farming.
He urged them to “enhance the provision of more practical on hand training of students and strengthen ties with international institutions to share knowledge and learn global best practices in agriculture.”
President Bola Tinubu has disclosed that the economic policies that he initiated upon his assumption of office are now yielding the desired results.
Tinubu, who acknowledged that the policies were harsh on the people, stated that the move became imperative in order to salvage the country from the crises facing it.
Speaking during the 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, the President, who was represented by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. WahabEgbewole, stated that the country is now graduating from a consumption to a production economy.
While calling for the people’s understanding and support, he maintained that his administration is open to criticisms and admiration.
The President said, “The need to salvage the future of our children and bring the country back from the brink of collapse necessitated the strategic decisions to remove the fuel subsidy and also unify the exchange rates.
“I am not unaware of the consequences of the tough decisions on our people. I sincerely wish there could be softer options.
“The macro-economy of our dear country is improving by the day and beyond expectations. The micro-economy, which directly affects our citizens, is also taking shape gradually with positive results.
“By the grace of the Almighty God, every household will experience a better life and have brighter hope for the future.
“We are working hard to ensure the safety of every Nigerian in every part of the country. Our security architecture is up to the task, and the ugly narratives of the past are changing for good. Also, we are not relenting in our pursuit of making our country a haven of prosperity for all.”
Imo State House Of Assembly has passed a motion urging the State Governor, Senator , Hope Uzodimma to mandate the Ministry Of Health And Consumer Protection Council (CPC) to Control the Exposure Of Packaged liquid.
The House made call in a motion chiefly sponsored by the member representing Ohaji Egbema State Constituency , Hon Francis Uzoma Osuoha.
Presenting the motion Hon Francis Osuoha noted that the exposure of plastic bottled drinks to sunlight discharges heavy metals into the liquid thereby deteriorating the quality of its liquid content.
Hon. Osuoha said that plastic bottles are susceptible to degradation under temperature, potentially releasing contaminates into the liquid, especially with the common practice of local stores that leave bottled drinks exposed to sunlight for sampling before trading.
The Lawmaker stated it is very important to note that the highest carcinogenic risk in all brands of plastic bottled drinks occurs after a period of exposure and the level of cancer related cases of patients since the production of consumable drinks in plastic bottles are now on the alarming rate.
He stressed the need of enlightenment programme by CPC to sensitize the dealers and general public on the health danger of such exposure of plastic bottled drinks to sun and to fashion out proactive measure to put an end to it.

The Nigerian Army had on Tuesday, announced that the troops of Joint Task Force, South East Operation, codenamed Operation UdoKa destroyed a camp in Umuchima.
Following the killing of the alleged informant, some natives of the affected village fled their homes in fear and relocated to nearby villages, promising to return as soon as the dust settled.

This is just as it commended the Nigerian military for their prompt response to the insurgence.
The Upper Chamber has directed the Military to work with the communities and other security agencies, while urging the Federal Government to send an assessment team to the affected areas to estimate the extent of damages and to determine the immediate relief needs of the affected families.

A Nigerian journalist based in the United States of America Mr. Jackson Ude has described as irresponsible and condemnable the continuous killing of Igbos by Igbos under the guise of enforcing a sit-at-home order to press a Biafra State.
Ude who called on all well-meaning and patriotic Igbos to rise in unison and condemn the wanton killing of Igbos in the South East Nigeria, lamented the alleged negligence of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to the killing of innocent Igbo citizens in the South East.
The communication expert in a series of tweets faulted the sit-at-home policy being implemented in the region by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) describing it as unhelpful.
He wrote: The continuous killing of Igbos by Igbos under the guise of enforcing a sit-at-home order to press a Biafra State, is highly irresponsible and condemned.
Our people have not done any wrong going about in search of their daily bread at a time poverty and hunger have enveloped the country.
How does it make sense to continue denying the people you seek to protect their daily means of livelihood by enforcing a sit-at-home order, turn around and kill them, and then claim to be protecting them from Fulanis or terrorist government?
He called on agitators for the realization of Biafra to set up a political platform rather than resorting to violence.
The most civil way to achieve this Biafra State is to use a political party platform, elect people into the State Houses of Assembly in the South and have them all sign a referendum for a Biafra State.
The idea that a Biafra state can be achieved through a sit-at-home order and the continuous killing of our people is not only childish but criminal, he said even as he chided Tinubu for doing little or nothing to address the situation.
And to have the Federal Government watch and allow citizens from the South East denied their rights to freedom and killed without appropriate measures to protect them is despicable, irresponsible and dangerous.
I am also thoroughly disappointed in the lackluster attitude and the silence of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo while our people are killed by a few armed individuals.
The bloodshed is too much and the suffering of the people who are in double jeopardy must be halted. We must intensify the call for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. This is one way the shenanigans of the sit-at-home enforcers would end.
If this does not stop, another insurgent group might begin the protection of our people from the sit-at-home enforcers, a situation that might throw the whole region in serious chaos! Igbos have suffered enough!
