The Executive Chairman of Oru-West Local Government who is also the head of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Imo State, Engr Ikenna Anthony Adikibe has lamented the increasing encroachment on government properties within the area.
He warned that his administration will no longer condone the attitude of such individuals or group challenged those in the habit of stepping into government lands.
Speaking during an on-the-spot inspection of the Mgbidi Central Schools property, where he discovered that the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel Mgbidi had committed the act, the chairman asked them to immediately remove from the property without delay.
Adikibe, who is also the Deputy National President of ALGON said that government will no longer tolerate the situation where individuals or group wilfully take over government property without authorization and warned those found culpable will have themselves to blame.
“Government will no longer sit by and watch individuals or group take over government property without authorization. We will begin to clamp down on such infractions anywhere we discover such.
“This is a direct warning to those that have committed the act to immediately remove before we begin to reclaim what rightfully belongs to the government. It is wrong for people to take laws into their hands.
“I am using this medium to warn that my administration will clamp down heavily on anybody found to have converted government property into personal use. Those who are guilty must begin now to relocate.
“My administration will in the coming days set up a committee that will investigate and report all the areas where government lands have been encroached so that we can move to reclaim it. Enough is enough.”
Adikibe condemned the reckless encroachment on government-owned lands, stressing that such actions undermine public infrastructure and community development.
He maintained that the government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma does not tolerate individuals or group encroaching on government properties and charged culprits to desist forthwith.
The Headmaster of Mgbidi Central School, Comrade Festus Iwuoha who led the Executive Chairman and his entourage to the affected areas described the level of encroachment as “alarming” and commended Engr. Adikibe for his prompt visit to assess the situation.
