… As 2nd Schools Unity Games kick-starts

All preparations are now set to kickstart the 2nd edition of Abía State Secondary Schools Unity Games. Even as the governor will
reward miss Esther Okoronkwo for her excellent performance in the just concluded Women FIFA tournament .
Speaking to a cross section of the press in his office on Monday, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, Dr. Cyril Chibuike Nwaigwe PhD said the ministry is working assiduously to ensured a successful hitch Free event .
He disclosed that the management of the ministry have set up various committees to man various suspects of the game, adding that one of the committees is the Security Committees that is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that there is absolute protection of Lives and Properties all through the 4 days event which is to begin on Tuesday 29th.
“The Committee is equally expected to provide orderliness for a smooth and successful outing this 2025 edition of the governor Secondary Schools Unity Games. Members of this committee comprise the Police , Army and other paramilitary Agencies” .
He said last year’s edition was a huge success and peaceful so it is hoped that this year exercise would be more successful than that of last year .
“Another strategic Committee is the medical Committee that is charged to provide adequate health needs for injured or collapsed Athletes, we have hired medial doctors and nurses as members of the Committee while there is a standby ambulance for emergence . The accommodation Committee is to provide accommodation for all athletes from far and near to this end, schools with good hostels have been approached for accommodation while hotel arrangements is almost concluded to give accommodation to the athletes as they arrive .
“The Entertainment Committee would ensure that the athletes and other visiting officials are well fed while the Ceremonial Committee are incharge of music and other entertainments needed for the event” .
The permanent Secretary revealed that various traditional music and dances would future prominently in the event . Noting that they will also look into beautifications to ensure that the venues of the event are well beautified.
Dr. Nwaigwe used the occasion to congratulate the Super Falcons especially Miss Esther Okoronkwo who is from Abía State and bagged the Woman of The March Award. He noted that the state governor, Dr Alex Otti is a benevolent man, saying he must surely reward Miss Okoronkwo for her excellent performance in the just concluded Women FIFA tournament .
