It was a very colourful event recently at the Umuojisi Unity Primary school, as the women wing of Umuojisi Autonomous Community gathered in their glamorous uniform to hold their annual August meeting which is holistically associated with the Igbos irrespective of one’s religion or economic status.
Speaking to the media after the official open declaration of the event via prayers, the Chairlady of the group, Mrs. Elizabeth Eze, stated that their 2025 August meeting was designed to hold for two days where those of them at home could gather to evaluate their previous developmental achievements in Umuojisi community and also deliberate on their future preparation for the actualization of other projects, with the support of their husbands.
Mrs. Eze stated that their previously held August Meetings and their realized proceeds have been judiciously used to sink borehole and provide its regular maintenance, planting of palm seedlings, construction of new markets and many other things too numerous to mention.
She re-emphasized that the women of Umuojisi Development Union would not relent in championing development in the community, stressing that the ultimate ingredient that powered their earlier achievements was the enhancement of peace in all families. She added that the community women have intervened in many family misunderstandings in the area, thereby encouraging harmony and progress.
In her own submission, the Assistant Chairlady of the body, Mrs. Anthonia Ikpa, corroborated the position of the Chairlady, Mrs. Elizabeth Eze, in respect to their numerous realized achievements by same women in Umuojisi, with some generated proceeds from their previous August gatherings, stressing that all their achieved projects are for the betterment of the entire people.
Mrs. Ikpa reiterated the delight of her fellow community women in using this year’s August meeting to showcase their new uniform to the public. She added that they had earlier purchased chairs, tables and canopies for use in same community.
When asked by the newsmen why their meeting hall was not filled up as usual, she re-echoed that it was as a result of the experienced national economic hardship which made those at home to direct those in diaspora not to return for the meeting, rather they should financially support them to carry-on, promising to have a fuller house in next year’s gathering.
It could be recalled that this year’s August women meeting of Umuojisi community went very successful irrespective of a little misunderstanding that allegedly ensued between their unpopular traditional ruler and the women over the choice of a meeting venue, Umuojisi Unity Primary school, Isiekenesi, Ideato South Local Government Area of the state.
