Joint tactical teams of Abia State Police Command has stormed a kidnappers’ den at Umuiku Obete Village in Ukwa West LGA of Abia state. On sighting the police, the

notorious gang engaged the police in a gun battle, and unable to withstand the superior firepower of the police, five members of the gang were gun down.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, LLB, anipr who spoke unbehalf of the Commissioner of Police, (CP) Danladi Isa, Abia State Command, said the area is linked to series of kidnappings.

The CP disclosed that as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping incidents along Umuozo Village, Uratta Road, off Port Harcourt Road, on  30/06/2025 at about 1730hrs, leveraging on credible intelligence, police invaded the area and there was exchange of guns and police was able to neutralize the gang.

He revealed that during the encounter, six AK-47 rifles, 335 rounds of live ammunition, fourteen magazines, five handsets, three cutlasses, five operational jackets, one axe, one boot, and one polo charms were recovered. He noted that investigation is ongoing to track and apprehend other fleeing suspects of the gang.

The police boss further disclosed that in a separate operation on 02/08/2025, officers of the Arochukwu Divisional Headquarters recovered a double-barrel long gun at Amuvi Village, Arochukwu. Adding also that Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovery is ongoing.

CP Isa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicate crime and criminality in the state. He urged residents of Abia State to remain vigilant and support the Police by promptly reporting anyone with gunshot injuries or any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines below:
