Mbaise Policy Roundtable (MPR) in collaboration with Gift Health Plus (GHP) on Wednesday officially flagged off maternal health project in Mbaise, Imo State.
The ceremony which took place at Chris VI Hotel Ogbe ,Ahiara Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area Offered an opportunity for the organization to distribute six months supply of United Nations International Multiple Micronutrient Prenatal vitamins free of charge to 5000 Pregnant women in Mbaise.
Speaking during the event, the MPR Chairman,Prof Eddie Oparaoji described the event as a significant milestone for maternal health in Mbaise as the Mbaise Policy Roundtable Flags off its second ambitious initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of pregnant women and postnatal mothers in the area.
Prof Oparaoji noted that MPR serves as a beacon of hope and progress, adding that the organization is dedicated to forming partnership with international entities, Imo State Government and private sectors in order to drive impactful policies that will facilitate the development of Mbaise and Imo State.
The MPR Chairman who was represented by the Deputy Director Culture and Entertainment of the organization, Mr Desmond Obani reaffirmed the commitment of MPR to deliver holistic and high-quality healthcare to those who need it most.
Also speaking, the mother of the day ,Prof Viola Onwuliri noted that through the Programme, 5,000 Pregnant and postnatal women will receive 6 months of the United Nations Essential Micronutrient Vitamins completely free of charge.
Prof Viola regretted that around the world millions of women lack access to the basic nutrients they need during pregnancy.
“Today is not just about distributing vitamins,it is about giving thousands of mothers a better chance of healthy pregnancy, a safe delivery and a thriving child. It is about restoring strength, dignity and hope to the women who carry our future.”
In his speech, the chairman of the occasion, Dr Chijioke Kaduru commended MPR for such a wonderful initiatives that will go a long way to enhance the well- being of the pregnant women.
Dr Kaduru urged the beneficiaries of the programme to always take the Micronutrient Vitamins to enable the organization achieve its aim and objectives of the programme.
In her Lecture, Dr Ijeoma Judith Dozie stressed the need for the pregnant women to cultivate the habit of exercise and called on them to always take fruits.
