Imo State Universal Basic Education Board, IMSUBEB, and the Universal Basic Education (UBEC), have commended Umudibia Youths Organisation and those in diaspora, for coming to the aid of Umudibia Community Primary School Nekede Owerri West LGA Imo State, as the association begins the construction of sanitary structure for the school.
The education bodies made the commendation during an official inspection visit to the school on on Tuesday.
Speaking to newsmen, the Director of Continuous Quality Assurance Evaluation from the Board, represented by Clinton Chilaka, who witnessed the foundation-laying ceremony of six block restroom building, informed that IMSUBEB, in partnership with Universal Basic Education Commission,UBEC have been in the forefront in ensuring that best educational practices are offered to students of the state.
Mr Chilaka commended Umudibia youths at home and those in the diaspora, coordinators of the project, High Chief Bathlomew Uchehara and Dr.Emmanuel Nze, for initiating such project which he said, was also in line with the agenda of the the Board.
He said the Board was delighted to witness such humanitarian service carried out by the youth body and their brothers in the diaspora.
Flagging off the building project, the immediate past Sole Administratior of Owerri West LGA Hon.Victor Osigwe, thanked the youths and sponsors of the project which he said, would help to ease off the sanitary challenges facing staff and pupils of the school.
He advised the School authorities to make sure that the facility is properlly maintained when completed.
Lending her voice, the Headmistress of the School, Faith Onwuvuariri said she was overwhelmed with joy, maintaining that ever since she came to the school, that the youths have been of immense help to the School.
“They always come to ask us how we are faring, which is very rare, compared to other places l have been to. I, on behalf of staff and pupils of the school, appreciate this humanitarian gesture from them,” she said.
The Youth President, Comrade Paul Okereafor ,aka, Ability, disclosed that what informed their carrying out the project was the complaints of the School Head Teacher, who, in one of their visits, informed them that the school doesn’t have toile, adding that it was a big challenge to them.
He said after listening to the Headteacher, the Youth body decided to reach out to friends and their brothers in diaspora, to come to the aid of the School, hence the commencement of the project.
He use opportunity to thank in a special way, the facilitators of the project in the persons of High Chief Bathlomew Uchehara and Dr.Emmanuel Nze.
Others that witnessed the event were, Okenze of Umudibia, Felix Emeana, Chief Raymond Irechukwu, Okey Njoku, Rodney Egeka, community youths, staff and pupils of the School.
