In an effort to cut down the prices of gas and petroleum products, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Development say it will soon engage with NNPC and Depots to ensure that the state is not shortchanged but that Dealers in the State get more gas and petroleum products from the Depots and sell to the public at very reasonable prices to assuage the suffering of the people of the state.
The Commissioner for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Development, Barr. Emeka Mgbudem who disclosed this while addressing members of the association of Petroleum Marketers and dealers Imo State Chapter, during their General Meeting in Owerri, warned against diverting the products to other states, adding that the state government will aggregate its resources to ensure that the interest of the state is protected.
He assured them that the Ministry will not close their businesses or create an environment that will make it difficult for them to operate, pointing out that if they succeed they will pay their taxes to boost the state economy, which will in turn enable government to provide more infrastructure as government is an instrument for common good and any responsible government takes actions for the greater good of its people.
Barr. Mgbudem requested that 60% of their fees should be paid to TSA under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Development revenue sub-head, pointing out that they cannot pay signage, sanitation, OCDA and other fees, leaving the Ministry which supervises them behind even as he assured them that he had started responding to their demands.
He thanked them for their understanding and demonstration of commitment to the good of the people of the state, while promising that outstanding issues will be attended to.
Earlier, the Chairman of the association, Sir. Chidiebere Okoroafor highlighted some of their challenges and areas they want government to assist them, which include; getting more diesel, kerosene, LPFO and NAPHTA from Walter Smith, LPG from ANOH Gas Plant, as well as to lift PMS at good prices.
He pleaded that government should fix bad portions of the Port Harcourt road which had caused some accidents that resulted in their tankers falling, adding that they are ready to partner with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Development, adding that their association does not encourage members to sell adulterated products.
