Chairman of the Imo State Civil Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs) Julie Onyeukwu has commended members of the Disabled Workers ‘ Welfare Association, Imo State for their proactiveness in the discharge of their official duties.
Dr. Onyeukwu made the commendation when the Executive members of the Association paid her a courtesy visit in her office at the State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Onyeukwu charged them to give their best in service to the glory of God and upliftment of humanity, adding that, there is ability in disability.
The Commission Chairman however, used the opportunity to charge people of the state to look for inner being of persons and not the outlooks as running into conclusions about persons from the outlooks, might lead into wrong decisions and regrettable actions.
Earlier in an address presented by the State Chairman of the Association, Comrade Austin Okoro, thanked the Commission Chairman for granting them the audience to interface with them, noting that she is the first Chairman of the Civil Service Commission to grant them such audience.
Speaking further, he said that the association aims at the upliftment of workers with disabilities in the State Civil Service as well as championing the course and well-being of the entire disabled persons in the State. He promised that workers living with disabilities in the State would contribute their quota towards the realization of the Shared Prosperity Administration of His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma in the State.
They made a request for the inclusion of workers with disabilities in all schemes of the Civil Service including five percent employment quota, waiver for appointments to deserving persons such as Permanent Secretaries, Directorship, Secondments and others.
In a vote of thanks, Special Adviser to the Governor on Disabled Persons ‘ Affairs, Hon. Samuelson Emehibe described Dr. Julie Onyeukwu as a beacon of hope for persons with disabilities,adding that the Governor has done a lot for persons with disabilities especially, in the area of signing a bill for the establishment of the Imo State Commission for the disabled.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of an “Administrator per Excellence” award to the Civil Service Commission Chairman, Dr. Julie Onyeukwu.
Present during the occasion included the Hon. Commissioners representing the three zones in the Commission, Dr . Uche Edomobi, Hon. Goddy Dike, Dr. R. C. O. Ezeogu, the Permanent Secretary (Covering Duties), Sir. Evans Iroanya and other Management staff of the Commission.
