Presenting the Motion before Plenary on Thursday July 4, 2024, Hon Sam Osuji, who is the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Environment, bemoaned the indiscriminate presence of Cooking Gas Stations and Retail Outlets in almost every corner of the Street in the State, especially, the State Capital, Owerri, describing it as a ticking Time Bomb waiting to explode in every part of the State.

He wondered why these Gas Stations and Retail Outlets are allowed to dispense Cooking Gas Products, otherwise known as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), from Large Petroleum Tanks and 50kg Cylinders to Buyers with Cylinders of 12.5kg, 10kg, 7.5kg, 5kg, and below, in Residential Areas unchecked, pointing out that in the course of his Committee on Environment Oversight Function, he found out that Explosions from Cooking Gas Station in Orji Community, Owerri-North Local Government Area, killed some people and destroyed properties worth billions of naira about three years ago.

The Lawmaker also revealed that around Kagha Street in the State Capital, Owerri, few years ago, Explosions occurred from a Cooking Gas Retail Outlet, destroying Properties, which calls for concern.
