From Henrietta Ashikodi, Umuahia

It was a moment of pain and grief for the people of Oriendu community and Abia state at large, as Ugoeze Judith Ajomiwe was laid to rest last Saturday at her husband’s country home. She was the wife of Eze Pastor Philip Ajomiwe, a foremost traditional ruler.

Speaking at the funeral service, Pastor Uche Umeh of Power Word Ministry, Umuahia, said death awaits everyone, but what matters most is how one lives and the impact made while alive.

He regretted that man attaches so much importance to worldly things while forgetting that one day death will come, after which comes judgment. He disclosed that whatever one has today, many others had it in the past and are now gone.

The cleric noted that not long ago, Ugoeze attended the burials of others, and today, people gathered for hers. “After hers, we do not know whose turn will come next among those seated here,” he said. He urged those present to always reflect on death because it is inevitable.

He, however, applauded the love the deceased shared with her husband, noting that they remained inseparable until death. He urged couples to emulate their kind of love for a better society.

Speaking also, the Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti ably represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, said the loss of a wife is painful, but added that one cannot question God.

“Mrs. Ajomiwe was a woman on a divine mission. Only God can bring lasting solace,” he said.

On behalf of the state government, he expressed deep condolences over the death and prayed for the family.

Speaking emotionally, the husband, Eze Ajomiwe, thanked the state government, traditional rulers, and various organizations, including the Rotary Club, Rich Club, Mr. Akinwumi Adesina, Nigerian economist who served as President of the African Development Bank from 2015 to 2025 and adjudged him the Best Farmer in the Southeast, and various farmers’ organizations for their show of love in his moment of grief.

He described his wife as an exceptional woman who was full of love, care, kindness, and highly accommodating. He added that if there is anything like a next world, he prays that God will join them together again and again. He prayed for his son, Prince Ajomiwe, who is yet to marry, to find a woman like his mother as a wife.

Also speaking, the wife of the Chairman of the Umuahia North Traditional Rulers Council, Ugoeze Edwina Nwaigwe, said Ugoeze Judith was once the Chairperson of Ugoezes in Umuahia North. She said they are yet to come to terms with her death, describing her as a gentle and peaceful woman who was loved by everyone who came across her.

In tears, the mother of the deceased, Mrs Nnenna Chijioke said Ugoeze Judith is her only daughter, she described her death as painful because she was expecting that she should be the one to bury her but reverse has become the case.
