The Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy Mr Chuck Chuckuemeka has affirmed the willingness of the ministry to continue to partner with relevant stakeholders for the overall growth and development of the state.
Mr. Chuckuemeka gave the affirmation when he received the management team of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Imo State Office, who were on a courtesy visit to his office.
He lauded the team for their harmonious and collaborative disposition towards revenue drive and remittance and expressed his readiness to improve on the gains so far achieved, by building the capacity of account officers from both the state and local governments, especially the directors and heads of accounts on tax collection and prompt remittance.
The Commissioner applauded the recent tax reforms by the federal government, stating that its implementation come January 2026 will usher in significant economic transformation across the three tiers of government. He reaffirmed the strong belief of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in moving the country forward.
On his part, the Accountant-General of the state, Dr. Linus Okafor reminded the FIRS team of the unremitted Pay As You Earn (PAYE) tax arrears due to the state after the last tax audit and urged them to take steps to ensure its timely remittance.
Earlier, the FIRS Director and leader of the team, Mr. Zach Ayodeji commended the Hon. Commissioner for his impactful role in the economic development of the state and attributed the essence of his visit to FIRS’ desire to foster a better working relationship with the state government.
Mr. Ayodeji who harped on the need to sensitize and encourage tax payment compliance and remittance from the MDA’s, local governments and citizens at large, using a more friendly approach, pointed to how increased Withholding Tax (WHT), VAT, etc generation from the state will translate to increased FAAC sharing and allocation to the state. He assured of the readiness of FIRS to partner with the state government for the overall growth of both the state and federal government.
Present at the visit were the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Augustina Ndubueze and the Head of Accounts Department, Mr Olugbenga Olujimi.
