Governor Hope Uzodimma has reassured residents of Imo State of his administration’s commitment to put in place a steady power supply to attract more investors.
He disclosed that already the State government is partnering foreign investors to revive the Egbema power plant in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government with a 380 MW to boost electricity for the entire State.
The governor, who made the promise in a speech delivered through his Special Adviser on Public Orientation, Collins Ughala during the 2024 Chapel Harvest of the Anglican communion at Umuokanne, Ohaji/Egbema presided by Bishop of the diocese Reverend C.C Oparaojiaku noted that their continuity to support his administration would attract further development.
He recalled that the people of Ohaji/Egbema have benefited immensely from his government listing the General Hospital at Umuokanne and the numerous appointments he has extended to them, including appointing a Judge of the High Court of Imo State from Ohaji. He added that that was the first time someone from the area would become a judge.
Ughalaa informed the people that the governor is bringing more developments to society” especially partnering with investors like the AFREXIM bank .
“There cannot be meaningful development if the issue of electricity is not resolved. That is why the governor has decided that in order for him to bring development and industrialise the state, there is a need to revive the Egbema Power Plant and power the state’s economy.
“You cannot be praying and asking God to bring development to your area, and at the same time, you are fighting against the government’s development initiative.
“Every development happens on the ground, not in the air. If you look at states that have seen development, it happened because the people supported the government and did not fight the government. Therefore, I urge you not to join those who fight the government and reject the government’s development initiative, but join those who support the government because that is the only way the government can succeed and deliver dividends of democracy to us.”
“The government is all of us, and we should stop seeing the government as them versus us. No, the government is all of us, and we have different roles to play. Instead of fighting the government, let us offer our support and play our roles for a better society.
“The government is made up of human beings. In Imo State, we are mostly Christians, and our brothers and sisters are in different fields. No matter where you are, you should play your own roles for a better society. If all of us commit to doing what is right, we wouldn’t have the challenges we have now in society,” He said.
