The Deputy Governor of Imo State, Lady Dr. Chinyere Ekomaru says that Governor Hope Uzodimma has transformed Imo State into an investment destination, a delight for tourists and a sanctuary for different Christian denominations and religious bodies.

She made the statement on Tuesday at Government House, Owerri, while receiving members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on a courtesy visit.

The deputy governor expressed satisfaction with the group’s activities and programmes, noting that their religious, humanitarian and social initiatives align with the Shared Prosperity Administration of Governor Uzodimma, who is ecumenical in nature.

Highlighting the governor’s achievements, the deputy governor cited good roads, security, electricity, well-equipped hospitals, and the building of critical infrastructure.

She added that Governor Uzodimma’s desire for a healthy youth population and a prosperous future informed the creation of the Ministry of Youth Development and Talent Hunt, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Digital Economy and E-Government, along with other agencies focused on grooming Imo youths into an enterprising population.

These bodies, she said, meaningfully engage youths and dissuade them from social vices, including drug abuse.

The deputy governor assured the group of her participation in their forthcoming workshop, noting that the programme will complement and boost what the government has already put in place.

She also assured them of government partnership, stressing that Governor Uzodimma has created many opportunities in Imo State that call for collaboration from the religious, business, digital and entertainment sectors, urging the group to intensify efforts to take advantage of the opportunities.

Earlier, the leader and ‘Stake’ President of the group, President of the church, Ezindu Iñeh, expressed their interest in helping Imo youths maximize their potential through a massive campaign against drug abuse, which has ruined many young lives.

He also expressed the group’s interest in partnering with the Imo state Government and assured of their commitment to support government and individuals through humanitarian services in areas such as food security, clean water and sanitation, maternal and newborn care, immunization and vision care, provision of hospital equipment and human empowerment, among others.

The high point of the visit was the official presentation of the letter of invitation to the workshop and souvenirs to the deputy governor.

The Principal Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Mr. John Njoku; the Director of Administration and Finance, Dr. Linda Ogbuu; the Director of Accounts, Mrs. Kate Okorie; the Director of Procurement, Mrs. Eucharia Uzoka and other principal officers of the Office of the Deputy Governor were present during the visit.
