A student of the premier university in the country, the university of Ibadan has been pronounced dead after he was reportedly said to have consumed a poison suspected to be an insecticide.

The student was said to be in the 300-level of the institution before his demise.

It was learnt that the student died after he allegedly took a substance suspected to be insecticide.

The incident occurred Sunday night.

Sources said that the deceased was found on the ground floor of Nnamdi Azikiwe Hall in an unconscious and distressed state by a fellow student.

It was learnt that the deceased reportedly admitted to taking a substance identified as sniper.

He was thereafter rushed to the university clinic.

The deceased who was stabilised at the clinic was later referred to University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, where he was placed on life support, but died later.

Public Relations Officer of UCH, Funmi Adetuyibi, when contacted yesterday, confirmed the death of the student.

“Yes, it is true. He was brought to the hospital. He is dead,” she said.
