Security consultant and frontline politician, Chief George Uju Madu has called on Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma to look inwards and take immediate steps to fill vacant Ezeship stools in various communities by issuing Staff of Office and Certificate of Recognition to deserving Eze-elects.
Chief Madu who is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, made the call weekend while speaking with newsmen in Owerri, on the current security situation in the state, expressed dismay that nearly 20 autonomous communities presently have no traditional rulers in the state.
He noted with delight that the governor had recorded remarkable success in tackling insecurity in the state but observed that absence of recognized monarchs in several communities was undermining the government’s efforts to achieve total calm.
According to him, more needs to be done in sustaining and consolidating the achievement at the community level as the absence of traditional rulers in some areas will continue to be a clog in the wheel of progress.
He observed that the vacant Ezeship stools in nearly 20 autonomous communities in the state is not a healthy scenario for the attainment of the desired peace, stability and security of all nooks and crannies of the state as envisaged under the ‘Shared Prosperity’ and 3-R mantra of the present administration.
Madu posited that timely recognition and issuance of Staff of Office to cleared and shortlisted Eze designates will minimize tension, bickering, factionalism and protracted tussle occasioned by the vacuum.
“To tackle insecurity and ensure government policies and directives get down to the grassroots, traditional rulers have great roles to play. A community without a monarch is like a flock without shepherd and can hardly move in the right direction.
“I appeal to our Governor to see reason and solve this lingering problem in order to consummate the milestones he achieved in the security sector as well as development of the rural communities,” Madu submitted.
