The Imo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Chief Mrs. Rubby Emele, has charged the newly recognized traditional rulers across the state to ensure that their communities feel the impact of good leadership, adding that it was also required of them to support the present administration towards moving the state forward.

Hon. Emele, gave the encouragement at the Government House, Owerri, on Saturday, March 22, while responding to questions from journalists during the presentation of Staff of Office and Certificate of Recognition to the then Ezes-Elect by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

She described the outcome as significant, noting: “We thank God for a day like this, an important one that His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, presented Staff of Office and Certificate of Recognition to traditional rulers who replaced deceased monarchs in their existing autonomous communities in the state.”

Furthermore, the commissioner emphasized the need for the new traditional rulers to heed Governor Uzodimma’s admonitions for them to provide good leadership in their domains by ensuring that there is justice, peace and security which she observed are the bases for progress in a society.

“While I congratulate the new Eze’s for this recognition, I must also encourage them to heed the His Excellency’s advice for them to go home and give good leadership to their people. They should appreciate the trust of their subjects, and ensure that there is peace and security which are very essential for development to take place,” she posited.

The former Isiala Mbano LGA boss, also stressed the need for the new monarchs as community leaders and custodians of culture to support the efforts of the present government towards ensuring that Imo State is peaceful, secured and prosperous. She urged them to ensure that good governance being experienced in the state gets to the grassroots, as well as equitable distribution of democratic dividends in line with the Shared Prosperity philosophy of the 3R Government.

“It’s the duty of the new traditional rulers to ensure the implementation of government programmes in their communities, while ensuring that whatever that gets to their communities, including government palliatives are equitably distributed among their indigines,” the commissioner stated.

Meanwhile, during the presentations, Governor Uzodimma while expressing delight over the exercise, explained that the duty of government was to recognize traditional rulers already selected from their communities, noting that his administration will not hesitate to withdraw recognition from any monarch whose emergence turned out to be false.

The governor encouraged them to discharge their duties creditably and to make sacrifices for the benefits of their communities, while urging them to support the efforts of his administration by ensuring peace and security in their communities. He cautioned them against involvement in crimes and anti-government activities, vowing that such would attract consequences, including withdrawal of recognition from any monarch found culpable.
