The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has suspended the chairmen of its Imo and Abia State chapters over alleged acts of sabotage aimed at disrupting the party’s forthcoming National Elective Convention.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the forum held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the PDP FCT Secretariat in Abuja, under the chairmanship of Sir Edward Percy Masha, Acting Secretary of the forum.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by the newly appointed Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi of Edo State, and Secretary, Sir Edward Percy Masha, the forum accused Hon. Austine Nwachukwu (Imo) and Hon. Amah Abraham Nnana (Abia) of colluding with external interests linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to derail preparations for the PDP’s National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025.
According to the statement, the two chairmen had recently sought a court injunction to halt the convention, a move the forum described as a betrayal of the party’s unity and collective resolve.
Their suspension, it said, followed a unanimous decision by members present.
The meeting, attended physically by 25 state chairmen and virtually by seven others, also appointed Dr. Aziegbemi as the new Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen Forum.
In its resolutions, the forum condemned what it called the APC’s “undemocratic and desperate efforts” to intimidate PDP leaders, including governors, senators, and lawmakers, into defecting. It warned that such actions posed a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy and risked creating a one-party state.
The forum further passed a vote of confidence in the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, the PDP Governors’ Forum, and all statutory organs of the party.
It reaffirmed its commitment to work harmoniously with them to rebuild and reposition the PDP as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
