The traditional rulers of Okigwe zone extraction have passed a vote of confidence on Governor Hope Uzodimma, for the good and quality works delivered to Imo people.
This is even as the Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Chief Cosmas Iwu has urged the zone to work assiduously to entrench peace in the zone in order to attract more dividends of democracy from the governor.
Speaking during a courtesy call on him at the Cabinet Office, Owerri, Chief Iwu insisted that Okigwe has enjoyed quantum leap in infrastructure development since the coming to office of the present governor.
According to him, “as you drive through the Okigwe-Owerri road, you would notice a significant difference from what it used to be, and what it is today. Governor Uzodimma is mindful of the comfort of travellers and the economic importance of good roads, hence his road revolution in the state among other infrastructural developments.”
Chief Iwu urged the traditional rulers to encourage the Governor to do more through theirmassive support, adding that, “if there are areas the government has not touched in Okigwe Zone, they will be attended to because Governor Uzodimma cares for lmo people.”
He told the visitors that the governor has appointed many Okigwe sons and daughters into sensitive positions, including himself, hence, the need to show gratitude Okigwe and full support in the formulation and implementation of his policies in line with his prosperity agenda encapsulated on reconstruction, rehabilitation, and recovery.
On the issue of peace and security; the SGI maintained that Governor Uzodimma can only continue to deliver democracy dividends, if peace is in place, hence, there is need for the state to be peaceful and secured.
He reiterated the unwavering commitment and resources the state government has expended to restore peace in the state.
“We need to sustain this peace for progress and development. But as traditional rulers, you have the dual role to secure your communities and also publicly condemn those who either sponsor or engage in security breaches, even if they are our children”.
Chief Iwu challenged the traditional rulers not to shy away from the responsibilities of exposing or reporting the pepertrators of breach of security in their domains, noting that it will help to stabilise the government.
Furthermore he advised the traditional rulers to distance themselves from partisan politics, adding that they should continue to intervene and intercede for their subjects.
Earlier, the Acting Zonal Chairman, HRM, EzeIheanacho C. Ndukwe, on behalf of the principal officers of Okigwe Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers, said that they were on the visit to appreciate Governor Uzodimma on the good works he is doing and to thank him for appointing sons and daughters of Okigwe zone into sensitive positions in his cabinet.
” We, the traditional rulers from Okigwe zone are grateful to Governor Uzodimma for extending dividends of democracy to Okigwe zone, especially the good road network, the approval of the establishment of Federal University Okigwe, the building of modern hospital at Isiala Mbano LGA and others too numerous to mention.”
Contributing also, the Public Relations Officer of Okigwe Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Eze Chris OgemdiAgbugba, said the other reasons for the visit was to intimate the Secretary to the Government of Imo State that they were proposing to hold a Summit for all the traditional rulers in Okigwe Zone and solicited government’s support.
Present at the visit were Commissioners for Environment and Sanitation Hon. Chief Major Emenike, Tourism and Culture Barr. Jerry Egemba, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Mrs Rubby Emele, Finance Hon. Chuck Chuckuemeka, Transport Hon Emeka Okoronkwo, Member of ISOPADEC Hon. Kelechi Onuoha and former Commissioner for Youth and Sports and APC leader in Okigwe zone Hon. Dan Ogu.
The traditional rulers that came on the visit included, HRM Eze Dan Emereonye, Secretary Okigwe Zonal Council of Traditional Rulers, HRMEze Patrick N. Uwalaka Chairman, Obowo Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM, Eze, Rev. Jude Uwalaka Chairman, Ihitte Uboma Council of Traditional Rulers and HRM Eze C.N Eze, Chairman Onuimo Council of Traditional Rulers.
