In a well attended meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the residence of the Zonal Vice Chairman of the party. Hon. Barr Kelvin Ugwu in Obosima, Ohuba Ward, Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State, the leadership and members of the party said they were ready for the forthcoming lGA polls and set up a committee to look at the zoning of the offices of the LGA chairman and that of the Vice Chairman, in line with the method of sharing political offices in the area.

The decision followed a motion moved by Hon Osondu Chimaokwu, former Leader of the Ohaji/Egbema Legislative Council, seconded by Hon Chidi Igwe, also a former member of the Ohaji/Egbema LGA Legislative Council, to ensure that the party, in the LGA has a rancour free and credible process of chosing a candidate for the office of Chairman and Vice Chairman for the forthcoming LGA election.

Consequently, the party adopted the motion that a zoning committee be created to look at the zoning of the offices and nominated five members for the zoning arrangement with Prof Vitalis Chukwudi Nwulu as Chairman.

Other members of the committee are: Engr Tony Okanne, Hon Cas-Henry Ogbuka, Deacon Ernest Oziri, and Hon Augustine Achor Ejizu, Secretary.

The zoning committee members were inaugurated by the LGA chairman of the party, Hon. Obioma Obasi.

The party also frowned at the activities of some party members who willfully hold and attend party meetings not called by the leadership of the party in the LGA and without their express approval, even as the party resolved that henceforth, only acknowledged party officials from the LGA are entitled to call and hold meetings of the party.

The party condemned in very strong terms, a recent meeting attended by party members at Umuokanne on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, where some persons who were believed to be members of the APC in Ohaji/Egbema were reported to have zoned the LGA chairmanship position for the forthcoming council polls to Awarra Court Area of Ohaji, against the method of sharing political offices in the area.

The party said: “Ohaji/Egbema APC wishes to disassociate itself from the said zoning of the chairmanship.

position to a particular area, as the decision was not in tandem with the wishes and aspirations of our party. The purported zoning is also at variance with the operational method of sharing party positions for elections in the LGA.”

In their speeches, the Ward Chairmen and women leaders at the grassroots joined in condemning the recent meeting at Umuokanne, Ohaji, where a particular person unilaterally named an area to produce the chairmanship position come September 24, 2024 LGA Elections.
