Tragedy struck at the weekend when a young man simply identified as Prosper allegedly died during initiation into a cult group in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
It was gathered that the victim died following repeated drilling during the initiation process.
The deceased was alleged to have approached a family member identified as Cosmos to express his willingness to join the Aye confraternity group.
It was learnt that Cosmos, who is said to be a senior member of the cult group, linked him with other members to take him to the initiation venue as him would not be attending the ceremony
Tragedy, however, struck as the victim died during the initiation process following alleged repeatedly drills by members.
It was further gathered that Cosmos claimed he was told that the deceased fainted following the hard drug he allegedly took before the initiation process.
The Edo State Police Command who confirmed the incident said a suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The Command’s image maker, Moses Yamu who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Benin Citystated that the deceased slumped during the initiation and was rushed to a hospital at Jattu, where he was confirmed dead.
Yamu said the suspect is in police custody while investigation on the matter is ongoing.
