Imo transport stakeholders have been advised to work in synergy with Ministry of Transport

The Hon. Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chika Abazu stated this while interacting with the committees and Imo state stakeholders of the transport sector at the State Secretariat Complex, Port Harcourt, Road, Owerri.

He commended them for coming out in their numbers, and for honouring the invitation, which is the maiden interactive meeting with them since his assumption of office.

Addressing the stakeholders, Dr. Abazu disclosed that the essence of the meeting was for him to meet all the stakeholders in the transport sector, familiarize himself with them, as well as officially introduce himself to them.

He explained that the meeting was to discuss how to improve on the transport sector in line the 3R mantra of Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery of the present administration of Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma.

He opined that the transport sector, like other sectors will not be left out, adding that the objective cannot be achieved without the stakeholders, which comprises the Chairmen of NURTW, NARTO, Imo City Transport, among others in the sector.

The Ministry boss stated that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration has made plans to bring into accomplishment, the Imo Transport Master Plan in all the routes, adding that the roads will be modernized as plans are in top gear to construct modern terminals(fully equiped), pointing out that the governor wants a good Transport Sector Reform.

Abazu solicited the support of stakeholders on sensitization of all transporters operating in various routes, stressing the need to obey laws, regulations and order guiding the transport sector in the state.

He stressed how His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma frowns at unlawful and unauthorized parks, and wondered why almost every space in the state is used as car park.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Bimbola Ogunsanya said that the Commissioner has paid much attention to Imo transport sector. According to him, one of them is the reshufling of the Excos and reconstitution of some committees within his shortest period in office.

Speaking also, the Special Adviser to Governor on illegal parks and supervision of all parks in the State, Hon. Frank Onwumere described the event as a welcome development, a step in the right direction.

He also commended the Commissioner for the stakeholders’ meeting which he maintained, should be sustained.

Hon. Onwumere emphasized the need for those in the transport sector to obey traffic regulations, load their vehicles on the designated places, avoid one chance.

Speaking further, the Special Adviser reiterated that passengers should strive to know who the drivers are, in order not to fall victims in the hands of armed robbers, kidnappers or even ritualists.

Hon. Frank maintained that loading of vehicles in wrong places like, along the road is an offence, adding that they have been trying to enlighten Imo People, creating awareness that breaking of laws is one of the punishable offences in the state, which will not be tolerated any more.

He equally urged the drivers to load their vehicles in the right places to avoid being arrested, and advised people to obey the law and do the right thing.

In their separate contributions, CRC OKafor Arinze, Head, Motor Administration, Federal Road Safety Commission ( FRSC) Imo State and Mr. Chika Nwaneri, Special Adviser to Governor on Imo City Transport, commended Commissioner Abazu for the meeting, and promised of their total support and cooperation at all times.

They stated that they have been expecting such meeting, stressing that in the area of illegal motor parks, they are going to look into it and come up with measures to put them in place.

They, therefore, assured Dr. Abazu of cooperation and support to the Ministry to ensure that the Commissioner actualizes his dreams of bringing sanity in the transport sector.
