The Imo State House of Assembly has summoned the Publisher of Watchdog Newspaper, a Local tabloid over alleged defamatory publication against the member representing Orlu state Constituency, Hon Ikenna Ihezuo.

The House issued the summons during its plenary session on Thursday, following a complaint brought to the House by the affected legislator.

Hon Ihezuo said that the chairman of the Orlu chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr Stanley Nwosu, alleged in a story published in the June 4 edition of the paper that he prevented the Lawmaker from diverting 65 bags of rice meant for subsidy palliative for Orlu constituents.

He stressed that the report was false, adding that the party chairman was collaborating with the Publisher Mr. Precious Nwadike who contested for Orlu seat at the Assembly and lost.

He described the report as an orchestrated attempt to tarnish his image by defaming his character and reducing his estimation before people who know him

The Lawmaker stated that if the matter was not properly handled, the entire legislative arm will be negatively affected.

He therefore called on the House to summon the author of the report, the Editor and the Publisher of the paper to appear before the House with evidence to support their publication.
