A motion praying for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the popular Atta-Inyishi-Amaimo-Ugirike-Obohia-Afor Oru road that runs through Ikeduru and Ahiazu Mbaise local government areas of Imo state yesterday, sailed through the state House of Assembly.
Presenting the motion on the floor of the legislative house, its Chief sponsor, Hon Chief Johnleoba Iheoha and 16 other sponsors, including the Deputy Speaker of the house, Rt Hon Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu and majority leader, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi, pointed out that the road is in a state of disrepair and dilapidation, causing difficulties, pains and untold hardship to motorists and other road users in general.
Hon Johnleoba Iheoha lamented that people of communities living along the road have continued to suffer huge economic losses and remain disconnected from neighbouring towns.
During exhaustive deliberations that followed presentation of the motion, the house members agreed that prompt reconstruction and rehabilitation of the road would improve the socio-economic well-being of people of the area and boost trade and commerce as well as enhance security.
The house in adopting the motion, stressed that the Uzodimma-led 3-R mantra administration has so far, made significant strides in Infrastructural development, in healthcare delivery and other sectors of the economy.
The house referred to the high grade Owerri-Orlu, Owerri-Okigwe and Owerri-Mbaise-Umuahia roads, among others reconstructed by the Uzodimma administration.
The house therefore, resolved to direct the state Commissioner for works to conduct thorough assessment of the road, to determine the extent of rehabilitation and reconstruction required and to ensure that the road is rehabilitated before the rains become severe.
The motion was seconded by the member for Nkwerre state constituency, Hon Chisom Ojukwu.
