The Governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has assured Imolites of his commitment to ensure the conduct of a free, fair local government and councillorship elections in the state, on September 21, 2024.

The Governor gave this assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Imo All Progressive Congress (APC) at its Okigwe Road State Secretariate, through his Deputy, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru.

According to a press statement endorsed by the Chief Press Secretary to the deputy governor, Dr. Charles Uzopuo, the Deputy Governor, who represented the Governor at the meeting aligned herself with the directives of the Governor regarding the election guidelines while on behalf of the Governor, asked for a continued support and prayers for the Shared Prosperity Administration in the state.

She noted that for Governor’s road and other infrastructural revolution, human capital development, youth empowerment, investment in Agriculture, Education, Health, Power, to continue with sustained speed, Imolites, especially, the APC party faithful, must continue to lend their support to the Governor and the government of the state.

The Governor also directed that members and stakeholders of the party should stop any form of meeting/gathering for his succession in 2027, emphasizing that such meetings/gatherings are distractions coming too early.

Consequently, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie, member representing Mbaitoli state constituency in the Imo House of Assembly moved a motion for a continuous support to the Governor for a second term success while his counterpart from Nkwere, Hon. Chisom Ojukwu seconded the motion and the party members present, affirmed and passed the motion, through a voice vote conducted by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe.

The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Ebere MacDonald, joined by the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, the Speaker of Imo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, APC National Vice Chairman, South east, Hon. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, earlier unveiled the electoral guidelines to the party members, also reeled out to them, the electoral time table as stipulated by Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), while encouraging all qualified party faithful to actively, without fear or favour, participate in the electoral process, to institute a healthy democratic government in the local councils and wards, however, advised aspirants against desperation and godfatherism.

Hon. Arodiogbu, in his speech, expressed the support of the party at the National level for the conduct of free and fair council elections in Imo state, challenging members of the party to ensure total victory for APC, which, to him, will enhance the party’s grassroot participation in government and guarantee victory for APC in 2027 general election.

The meeting had in attendance, the Speaker, Imo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe and other House of Assembly members, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Bar. Nnamdi Anyaehie and other political appointees, members of the APC State working Committee, party stakeholders from Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe, including chairmanship and Councillorship aspirants from across the state.
