Imo State House of Assembly has called on the state Governor, Hope Uzodimma to direct the ministry of health to embark on inspection visit to Inyishi Community of Ikeduru Local Government Area, with a view to establishing a College of Nursing Sciences in the community.
This followed a motion Sponsored by the member for Ikeduru state Constituency in the house, Hon JohnLeoba Iheoha with Eleven other Lawmakers as Co- Sponsors.
Presenting the motion on the floor of the house, Hon Johnleoba Iheoha commended the shared prosperity 3-mantra administration of Senator Hope Uzodimma for tremendously improving the health facilities in the state and giving the over 305 health centres across the three senatorial zone a facelift.
Johnleoba Iheoha pointed out that the functional health centres would require a lot of manpower in the health sector.
He emphasized that the 305 Primary Health Centres that were rehabilitated by the present administration in the State to provide efficient health care for rural dwellers would require a lot of manpower such as nurses, nursing assistants, Laboratory technicians, among others , hence the urgent need to establish a College of Nursing Sciences at the Community Hospital, Inyishi in Ikeduru to train more nurses and other health professionals to complement the existing ones.
Hon. Iheoha explained that the government hospital already existing in Inyishi community is not only very expansive within a highly conducive environment but also, centrally located along the popular Ukwuorji-Umunoha-Nwaoriubi-Atta-Amaimo-Ugirike-Mbaise road and surrounded by many thickly populated Communities.
He disclosed that the Inyishi hospital has lots of accommodation with a medical laboratory for smooth take off as a College of Nursing.
The Lawmaker hinted that the college on commencement, would have more than enough student population from Mbaitoli, Isiala Mbano, Ikeduru and neighbouring Mbaise nation.
The Chief Sponsor, Johnleoba Iheoha lamented that Imo state had lost huge revenues as a result of students of the state origin attending Schools and Colleges of Nursing in other states.
Contributing in favour of the motion, the representative of Mbaitoli Constituency, Hon Innocent Ikpamezie observed that with the rising number of students willing to study nursing and other health related courses, it has become expedient for another college of nursing Sciences to be sited at the already existing community Hospital Inyishi in Ikeduru.
The Majority Leader of the House and member for Owerri West Constituency, Rt Hon Kanayo Onyemaechi who described the Governor as Education friendly, noted that he would not hesitate to implement any policy that would put Imo people in a vantage position.
When the Speaker, Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe put the motion to question, it scaled through without dissenting voice.
