# Youths desert area for safety

Following bandits invasion on the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area headquarters, Umuezeala, Tuesday, 8th October, 2024, residents of the council are now living in fear.

It would be recalled, that a yet-to-be identified bandits attacked the military base that is situated inside the LG Council.

Although,the Nigerian Army had earlier said, through its Acting Deputy Director, Public Relations Officer, 82 Divisio, Lt. Col. Jonah Unuakhalu that no soldier or a civilian were killed at the Council.

“The gallant efforts of the troops prevented the criminals from gaining entry into the Council Secretariat”.

Weekend Statesman roving reporter who visited Umunakunu, a community of about one kilometre to the headquarters, said, that the area was calm, and that some shops were locked, even though it was a broaday light when businesses were expected to be booming.

As at the time of filing this report, security operatives had been stationed within the axis the incident occurred for maintenance of law and order.

Other communities, such as Umueze 2, Umueleke, Umualumaku, Umunumo, Agbaghara Nsu, Agbaja, Ezeoke Nsu, Umukabia, Nzerem- Ikpem, Umueze 1, and others can be said to be witnessing exodus of youths that are now deserting the communities over what can be described as ” fear of the unknown”.

A middle- aged man, from Umueleke community who agreed to speak to this medium on condition of anonymity, expressed worry over the increasing destruction of lives and property in Ehime Mbano.

“We are no longer sleeping with our two eyes closed. Armed robbery, kidnapping, killings, burglary, snatching are what we have been seeing here. Our lives are not safe”.
