Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has directed Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Parastatals, Agencies of government to commence daily roll call of workers.
Governor’s directive is to check the excesses of some civil servants who have the habit of absenting themselves from duty on Mondays and other days.
The directive was contained in Imo State Government Announcement released on Monday by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Hon. Declan Emelumba .
According to the Commissioner, governor’s directive to the Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Parastatals and Agencies of government, is to ensure that those who disobey the directive suffer the consequences.
He explained that the governor has directed that any civil servants, who absents himself /herself from duty on Mondays and other days will lose his/her salary, in addition to other punishments that many be recommended against him or her.
The statement from Hon. Emelumba further said: “The government of Imo State has observed with dismay that some civil servants, for inexplicable reasons, absent themselves from duties, especially, on Mondays. This is totally unacceptable, moreover, since such civil servants neither obtain permission, nor have authorization of their superiors to absent from duty, thereby, making their conduct illegal and unprofessional. Consequently, the government will henceforth view such a rascally conduct as a direct challenge to its authority which will attract sanctions.”
