Abians has expressed sadness, shock over the killing of five soldiers in Aba.

They said this is coming at a time when Governor Otti has done a lot to improve the security of the state while further appealing to the army to look for the killers and spare innocent persons.

Reacting over the killing last Thursday, Labour Party in strong terms condemned the attack, describing the killing as the heinous activity of an unidentified gunmen who maimed and took the lives of five soldiers in Abia, while burning their hilux vans and carting away their rifles.

The Southeast National Vice Chairman of the party, Hon. Ceekay Igara, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abia said the constant killing of military personnel in the state leaves much to be desired.

He described the action as dastardly and must be condemned re-emphasizing that the Igbo race is known for value for human lives and wondered what the intents of the assailants were.

Hon. Igara who called for calm among Abians, especially those in Aba commiserated with the family of the deceased and prayed God to grant their souls eternal rest while giving the families the fortitude to bear the loss.

The former Abia State Labour Party Chairman also called on the military to, by all means conduct the necessary investigations and ensure that culprits are brought to book while also appealing to them not to trade the innocent for the crimes of others.

In the same vein the State Chairman of the Abia PDP, Rt. Hon. Dr. Allwell Asiforo Okere, on behalf of the members of the State Working Committee, (SWC), members of the enlarged State Executive Committee, (SEC), stakeholders and the entire Abia PDP family commiserates with Abia state Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, the government and good people of Abia state, the Nigerian Army, and the families of the slain soldiers, on the sad incident which happened at Obikabia, in Aba area of the State on Thursday.

He said the information available to them, has it that two of the soldiers are worthy sons of Abia State, adding that the incident is quite regrettable, especially coming at a time when officers and men of the Nigerian military are working tirelessly to rid the society of tension and anarchy and set up the country for forward movement towards development.

The Abia PDP called on the governor to engage peacefully with the Nigerian Army, to ensure that this sad incident does not escalate and consume more souls as they have already seen some innocent citizens caught in the crossfires between the Army and non-state actors.

“We also call the good people of Abia State to be cautious and remain peaceful and law abiding during this sad period, and at other times, and avoid actions capable of fueling the already tense situation.

“And to the Nigerian Army, we condole with you on the loss of your gallant soldiers and plead with you to be discerning in fishing out the perpetrators and ensure that innocent citizens do not fall victims of your efforts to give your slain colleagues justice”.

A traditional ruler, Eze, John Ibezim said the killing of the gallant soldiers was highly Provocative and painful.

He sympathized with the army and families of the slain soldiers while appealing to the army to trade with caution and not to arrest or kill those who knows nothing about the incident.
