The chairman of Onuimo Local Government DrEmeka Paul Obi has commenced the rehabilitation of some sections of Onuimo roads to alleviate the suffering of motorists in the area.
He maintained that the exercise became necessary owing to the heavy downpour witnessed in the area in the recent months.
According to him, the closing of potholes will help motorists navigate Onuimo roads and also control those areas that were gradually turning into erosions.
He disclosed that one of the major problems bedeviling Onuimo is erosion, but that his administration is doing everything possible to ensure that it does not get out of hand.
Dr. Obi said after the massive grading of more than 4000 kilometers of roads in Onuimo before the Christmas festivities last year was the first of its kind in the history of governance in the area and that this helped Onuimolites that returned home for the celebration to move freely.
He disclosed further that the current operation was an intervention, adding that as soon as the rain subsides, permanent actions will commence without failing.
“Currently we are working on the Ezelu to Umucheke road because of its strategic importance to the people as other areas can connect through that road and it is busy all the time.
“We are also going to work on the Umuna to Okwe to Umuduruegbeaguru road. This is another very important and busy road. We want motorists especially food produce from the hinterlands to have easy access to the markets.
“You and I know that if the cost of transportation is high, prices will soar, so we want to checkmate the soaring prices in our markets.
He insisted that all the roads that deserve the attention of his administration at this time will be attended to and assured the people of Onuimo of his desire to make the area great again.
