…Hails Gov Uzodimma , Imo Assembly

The Director General of Consumer Protection Council (CPC) In Imo State, Dr Mrs Obioma Okafor has described the Bill for a law to establish the Imo State Consumer Protection Council, provide for the protection of interest of consumer, settlement of consumer disputes and connected purpose 2024 passed into law by the Imo State House of Assembly as a blessing to consumers in the state.

Mrs Okafor who disclosed this to STATESMAN in her office, expressed optimism that the Consumers in the State were happy with the law because it has giving CPC enough power to protect the right of consumers.

The CPC boss made it clear that with the law, no producer or manufacturer has any right to sub change any consumer in the state, adding that with the existence of the law, the consumers will be bold to demand for their right.

Okafor also expressed joy that the law makes provision for Alternative Disputes Resolution, which she said means that CPC can settle disputes between producer and consumer, instead of the consumer going to court.

“With this Law consumer should be rejoicing.The consumers will be bold to demand for their right. The 3R policy of CPC , Right to Repair, Refund and Replacement will be fully effective. CPC was established in 2005 and its State law in 2025. I urged the consumers to keep their eyes open.The vision of CPC is all about protection of consumers.”

She commended the State House of Assembly for its efforts to pass the bill into Law and described the gesture as a selfless sacrifice the House members did because of the love they have for consumers.

“The 10th House of Assembly know the plight of consumers in the state and its members know that this Law is very necessary and they decided that this Bill must be passed into Law. I thank God who made it possible.”

She thanked the State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma for providing enabling environment for CPC to function effectively.
