Revive reading culture in your children, Prof Nwadike advises parents

The Commissioner for Education, Primary and Secondary, Imo State, Prof JohnCliff Nwadike has expressed dismay that people have lost interest in reading.

Prof Nwadike stated this in an interview with newsmen on the occasion of public presentation of the book “Soul and Spirit” poetry of the heart plus more written by Joe Blaise Nnaemeka Akanazu held at Jubilee Hall, Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, adding that for the author to write the book, there is hope.

He disclosed that many of the students can speak without the idea of reading, and enjoined all to form the habit of reading, according to him, “If you have a newspaper, read it before you lose it”, noting that production is not complete until it gets to consumption.

The Commissioner identified the book as a historical context, a book of life, a book of knowledge which will raise the interest of the reader to know more, a book that will nourish people’s body, adding that many people have no souls and many have no spirits.

He stressed the need for people to have some quiet moment with God, their friends and their children, otherwise they cannot write books and encouraged people to get the book, read it and digest it because it is the only way it can capture their soul.

Prof Nwadike also expressed bitterness that some parents do not give their children books to read at home, while some watch their children engage in businesses that are not educationally connected, and urged parents to give their children textbooks to read, buy books for them and encourage them to have access to the books, charging parents also to go back to the basics and reinvigorate the reading culture in their children.
