Imo State Head of Service, Mr. Raymond Ucheoma has sought the support of the Legislature for the implementation of enhanced salary scale for all strata of workforce, as well as laws that would allow for regular adjustment of workers’ salaries to reflect the existing economic conditions and inflation trends.
He made this known during an Interactive session with the chairman and members of Imo State House of Assembly committee on labor, civil service, productivity and pensions who were on oversight function in his office, with the permanent secretaries and staff of his office, present.
Bar. Ucheoma disclosed that his office, in conjunction with the body of permanent secretaries have eliminated the ghost workers syndrome, cases of gratification and corruption as well as other negative attitudes which he said has made the service return to its former glory.
He appreciated Governor Uzodimma’s concern for the welfare of workers in the state through the creation of a conducive environment, training, regular payment of salaries, pensions and gratuity to the retired ones, and promised that they would reciprocate the gesture through effective service delivery.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the House Standing Committee on Labor, Civil Service, Productivity and Pensions, Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba who is also the member representing Isu State Constituency, explained that the Legislator’s visit was to seek for more harmonious relationship between the government and the Imo workforce.
He appreciated the Imo workforce for the good works they are doing for the continuity of government, and reminded them of the total adherence of the rule of law and regulations guiding the civil service, which he said should not be compromised.
Also in their separate remarks, two other members of the committee, Hon. Innocent Ikpamezie who represents Mbaitoli State Constituency, and Hon. Clinton Amadi who represents Owerri Municipal emphasized the need for leaving a legacy in the service.
They called for adequate behavioral change for more productivity.
However, in his remarks, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Labor and Productivity, Mr. Basil Iwu called for the fine – tuning of the system of payment in the civil service.
