… Highlights Gov Uzodimma’s achievements in health sector

The Deputy Governor of Imo state, Her Excellency Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru, PhD, has commended the efforts of health workers across the state, describing them as vital partners in the government’s drive to strengthen healthcare delivery.

Speaking in her office, during a courtesy visit by the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Imo State Branch, on Monday, the Deputy Governor highlighted the numerous achievements of the Governor Hope Uzodimma’s led administration in the health sector.

According to her, the Shared Prosperity Administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved special salary structures for health workers, constructed ultra-modern hospitals, provided a comprehensive health insurance scheme for the citizenry, and embarked on the rehabilitation and upgrade of 305 health centres across Imo State.

“It remarkable that the 305 health centers were earlier rehabilitated in 2020, upon Governor Hope Uzodimma’s assumption of office as Governor of Imo state and we are today, witnessing another round of rehabilitation and upgrade in 2025”, the Deputy Governor said.

She also noted the successful accreditation of courses and departments at the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu (IMSUTH), also the establishment of oxygen plant and other equipments at the health institution, describing the feat as a milestone in the state’s medical education and healthcare delivery.

“The upgrade of Federal Medical Center, Owerri to Federal University Teaching Hospital was achieved through the spirited efforts of our Governor to ensure that Imolites have access to quality healthcare facilities.

“Health is essential to everyone, and the trust we have in our health workers means everything to this administration. I urge all medical and health workers to take their duties seriously by attending trainings and seminars that will further improve their service delivery.

“All the ongoing reforms in the health sector is aimed at having more doctors and other health professionals, improved health facilities, access to affordable and quality healthcare in the state, which will ultimately drive Imo State to universal health coverage in no distant time”, the Deputy Governor stated.

Earlier, the leader of the union, Comrade Ezenwa Francis, said the courtesy visit was aimed at establishing a working relationship with the Deputy Governor and the Imo state Government. He expressed the union’s appreciation to Governor Hope Uzodimma for his continued support to the health sector and for granting the Imo health workers in the state, an increased minimum wage, while adding that as “Oliver Twist” they need more intervention from the administration.
