…Says feat’ll improve productivity, economy

As public workers in Imo State delight over the astronomic increase in their salaries, the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Willie TC Okolieogwo, has described the feat as motivational.

Okolieogwo said the feat by the Governor is a milestone, which he added would not only motivate the workers to be more efficient and productive, but improve the state’s economy.

Okolieogwo stated this in an interview with journalists during the Flag-Off of the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative, held recently, at Federal Secretariat, Owerri.

He attributed the pay rise/minimum wage increment for the public workers as a mark of love for humanity and passion for excellence by the Governor.

“The huge increment on Minimum Wage for public workers in Imo State is very motivating. This feat will always motivate the workers to be more efficient and productive, as well as remain very strong, being respectful and disciplined, thereby strengthening the economy of the state.

“The increase in Minimum Wage from #70,000 to #104,000 has made Imo State one of the highest- paying employers in the public sector. Now, Medical Doctors’ Entry-level pay is now ₦508,000 with a maximum of ₦1.2 million monthly. The Lecturers Entry-level pay is now ₦222,000 with a maximum of ₦812,000 monthly. Teachers’ entry-level pay is now ₦104,000, with a maximum of ₦441,000 monthly. This is a milestone. It is very encouraging”, the SA observed.

The immediate past Chairman of Oru West LGA and former Imo State Chapter of ALGON, emphasized that retirees had also been made happy with an allocation of #16 billion by the government to clear outstanding gratuity arrears of pensioners, covering over 5,700 retirees across state and local government levels.

Okolieogwo who lends credence, as well as supports effectively the vision, activities, programs and policies of the Shared Prosperity administration, advised the workers to always intensify optimal performance to enable them add to the development of the state.

He deeply commended the Governor for extending magnanimity to the workers, describing him as a democratic leader and a pragmatic politician, who has been working.
