OWERRI, Nigeria — Rev. Fr. Henry Igbokwe, a Nigerian Catholic priest based in Austria and widely known on social media as Fr. Mazi Uc, is set to host a “Meet, Greet, and Lunch” with his online followers, most of whom are Catholic youths.
The event, scheduled for Owerri, Imo State, has already generated buzz online, with organizers expecting over 500 participants who make their free online registration earlier enough as, it is quite reserved. It will be one of the first large scale gatherings of Catholic youths in Nigeria convened through a priest’s digital ministry.
Fr. Mazi Uc has built a strong reputation for using social media to share Catholic teachings, promote charity projects, and inspire faith through music. He has championed several humanitarian initiatives across him community. Beyond his pastoral duties, he is also a singer, scholar, and teacher, passionate about Christian music production.
For many of his nearly a million followers across all social media platforms, the upcoming gathering represents more than just an event, it is a chance to meet in person the priest who has long been a digital mentor and companion in faith to alot of people, especially the youths.
Observers note that the initiative reflects a new approach to evangelization, blending modern communication tools with traditional pastoral outreach. “It’s not just about popularity as some critics have alleged,” one supporter remarked. “It’s about showing that the Church can meet young people where they are online and in person.”
As the date approaches, excitement continues to grow, with many describing the Owerri program as a groundbreaking moment in Catholic youth engagement.
