The Imo State Council of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, has expressed happiness over the Supreme Court victory of the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, describing the outcome as an affirmation of the mandate which the people of Imo State freely gave to him during the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the state.

The Congress also expressed her confidence that the cheering judicial verdict would bring tremendous benefits to the people of Imo State, especially for the members of TUC in the state. Imo TUC disclosed her satisfaction that Governor Uzodimma’s ultimate triumph would enable him to consolidate the gains of his giant strides.

In a statement signed by the Imo State Chairman of TUC, Comrade Ibe Great Uchenna, and obtained by our reporter, the trade union body further highlighted the good working relationship between her members and Governor Uzodimma-led government, and reiterated her firm support and unwavering commitment towards the success of the present Shared Prosperity Government in the State.

The release expressed optimism that Governor Hope Uzodimma whom it described as workers-friendly, would not relent in his usual character of prioritizing the welfare of workers in the state, but to take further steps towards addressing some areas of concern by the Congress, as well as to ensure a prompt implementation of the new National Minimum Wage in the state.

The statement read: “The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) Imo State Council, has received with joy and excitement the verdict of the Supreme Court which upheld the electoral victory of the Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. This followed similar judgements from the Tribunal and the Appeal Courts earlier .

“It’s good to note that the verdict is a welcome development for the Imo TUC, given that it aligned with the popular wishes of the people of the state who re-elected Governor Hope Uzodimma overwhelmingly during the last governorship election in the state. What is so much interesting is the fact that the people’s mandate was allowed to stand.

“Another thrilling aspect of the landmark judgement is that this end to litigations would enable the Governor to concentrate more in administering the state, especially for the reason of consolidating his giant strides in various sectors of the state. It is common knowledge that the Governor, has put in place projects and programmes aimed at transforming Imo State.

“As a consequence, the Imo TUC is in high hopes that Governor Uzodimma who is workers-friendly, would strengthen his usual goodwill towards the welfare of workers in the state, and will promptly implement the new National Minimum Wage in the state as well as to address some of the issues raised by the Imo TUC concerning her members and operations.
