Traditional rulers from the six local government areas of Okigwe zone have endorsed the clamour for Owerri zone to produce the next Governor of the state, in line with the Imo Charter of Equity, affirmed by the governor Senator Hope Uzodimma and the Imo Elders Council.

The monarchs declared their support for Owerri zone in a communiqué issued after a meeting they held at Ehime Mbano local government area on Friday, June, 28, 2024.

The communiqué, jointly signed on behalf of Okigwe Council of Ndi Eze by HRH, Eze Nwabueze Onyema, Secretary, Okigwe Zonal Council of Ndi Eze, HRH, Eze Hyacinth Okorienta, Chairman, Ehime Mbano Ndi Eze, HRH, Eze Onyekwuru Lawrence and HRH, Eze Andrew Uba, as members, also congratulated the governor of Imo state, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on his victory in the November 11, 2023, election and the affirmation of same by the Election Petition Tribunal.

They also commended the governor for what they referred to as, his massive road revolution which, according to them, Okigwe zone has benefitted enormously from, in addition to ensuring the security of lives and properties, contrary to the machinations of unpatriotic and mischievous politicians instigating insecurity in the state for selfish reasons.

Continuing, the monarchs said: In line with our desire for peace, harmony, equity, justice and fairness, we whole-heartedly endorse Owerri zone to produce the next governor of Owerri zone in 2027, when our able governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma will exit office.

We also urge all sons and daughters of Okigwe zone interested in contesting the governorship election in 2027, to wait till after the expiration of Owerri zone’s tenure, so that Okigwe zone will enjoy an eight years tenure, instead of the advocated single four years tenure that will be inimical to the overall interest of Okigwe zone and her people”.

They also expressed their sincere gratitude to the Imo Elders Council, for articulating the Charter of Equity, the Imo State House of Assembly, for giving it legal backing, the religious leaders for solemnizing it, and the governor for his passionate commitment towards ensuring it’s actualization.
