A 29-year-old cleaner, Rakiya Garba, was on Thursday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrate’s Court for stealing N780,000 belonging to her employer, Hajiya Aisha Sadiq.

The defendant, who resides in Malali, Kaduna, was charged with breach of trust and stealing.

She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 27 at Ungwan Sarki in Kaduna State.

Leo said that the defendant, who is a cleaner for the complainant, went into her bedroom and stole the sum of N780,000 meant for the complainant’s children’s tuition fees.

He said that during police investigation, the defendant confessed to the crime and the sum of N380,000 was recovered from her.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum, one of who must be a blood relation.

Emmanuel said that the sureties must be gainfully employed with evidence of two years tax payment to Kaduna State Government.

He adjourned the case until March 7, for hearing.
