The Peoples Democratic Party,( PDP), in Adamawa State says it will seek the pairing of men and women for every local government area in the contest for the positions of chairman and vice chairman in the election scheduled for next month in the state.

Council election in the 21 local government areas of the state has been scheduled for July 13 by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, ADSIEC.

The positions of chairman, vice chairman and councillors will be contested for by members of all willing political parties in the state.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Tahir Shehu, told newsmen in Yola Friday that a male chairmanship candidate of the party will nominate a female as his running mate for the election while any woman who may be standing for the election as chairperson will nominate a man to run with her.

“By the grace of God, all LGAs that will be won by our party will have mixed gender in the positions of chairman and vice chairman,” the PDP chairman said.

He said the PDP is a gender-sensitive party, as made evident by the fact that the state deputy governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, is a woman.

“We recognize that women generally are unshakably honest and committed to what they do,” the PDP chairman said, adding that women who usually outnumber men when it comes to voting during elections, among other things, should be appreciated for their worth.

“We have every reason to encourage women for positions of leadership, and we have women of capacity all around us. As a party, the PDP would work with candidates to ensure the planned gender pairing,” he stressed.
