… Cites student loans, cash transfers, road projects for group’s mobilisation
The Imo State Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Hon. Chief Julius Egewusi, has cited Federal Government interventions in education, social welfare, skills acquisition and infrastructure as reasons for his group’s mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Egewusi said more than 40,000 Imo indigenes had benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), while over 50,000 households had been captured in conditional cash transfer programmes under the Tinubu administration. NigerianCulture Magazine
In a statement, he said the beneficiaries included students in the Imo State University (IMSU), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education and other institutions.
“Today, over 40,000 Imo sons and daughters have benefited from the NELFUND student loan, so no child will have to drop out of school because of school fees,” Egewusi said.
He also listed Orsu, Oru East, Oru West, Isu, Njaba, Nwangele, Ideato North and South, Ehime Mbano, Ihitte Uboma, Obowo, Ngor Okpala and Mbaitoli among the local government areas where households were reportedly benefiting from cash transfers ranging from N25,000 to N75,000.
The coordinator said market women and small-scale traders had also benefited from government-backed financial support, while youths were being targeted through skills acquisition and empowerment initiatives, including the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, Skill-Up Artisans and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative.
He said the Consumer Credit Scheme was providing opportunities for eligible beneficiaries to acquire items such as tricycles, motorcycles, freezers and phones through payment arrangements.
On infrastructure, Egewusi listed the Owerri-Aba, Owerri-Onitsha, Owerri-Port Harcourt, Owerri-Okigwe, Owerri-Orlu, Orlu-Ideato-Uga, Orsu-Ihiala and Okigwe-Umuahia roads among projects he said reflected federal government interventions in the state.
He added that some communities had benefited from solar streetlights, boreholes and classroom blocks, while rural electrification projects were being undertaken in parts of Imo.
He also said the proposed dredging of Oguta Lake and the Orashi River could boost commercial activities in oil-producing communities.
Egewusi attributed the increased resources available to state governments to President Tinubu’s removal of the petrol subsidy, arguing that the policy had strengthened Governor Hope Uzodimma’s capacity to execute development projects in Imo.
He said the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement had established structures across the state’s 27 local government areas, 305 wards and 4,758 polling units, which it planned to use for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We will move door to door, kindred to kindred and family to family until victory is secured,” he said.
Egewusi reaffirmed the group’s commitment to campaigning for Tinubu’s re-election, Uzodimma’s senatorial ambition in Orlu Zone and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He urged residents to remain hopeful, promising that the group would continue to highlight government programmes and their reported impact on communities across the state.
