Ace broadcaster, journalist and gender advocate, Dr. Adaora Onyechere Sydney-Jack, has been honoured with the Personality of the Year Award at the Nigeria Most 10 Influential Awards 2026, held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, last Saturday.
The prestigious event, organised by VGlamour Magazine under the leadership of its Convenor, Vivian Lam, brought together prominent personalities from government, business, aviation, media and other sectors. The award adds to Sydney-Jack’s growing list of recognitions for her contributions to broadcasting, advocacy, leadership and gender inclusion.
Sydney-Jack has distinguished herself as a media professional and advocate for inclusive governance, particularly through her sustained campaign for greater participation of women in leadership and decision-making. She has consistently argued that Nigeria cannot achieve meaningful and inclusive development when a significant segment of its population remains underrepresented in governance.
Reacting to the honour, Sydney-Jack expressed appreciation for the recognition, describing it as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with influence and visibility. She maintained that influence should not be measured by popularity alone, but by the ability to create opportunities, amplify important conversations and make meaningful contributions to society.
Through platforms including Gender Agenda, Gender Strategy Advancement International and WEWE Network Africa, Sydney-Jack has continued to promote gender equality, leadership, youth empowerment and inclusive governance. Her advocacy and professional work have earned her recognition both within Nigeria and internationally.
Other recipients at the awards included Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, who received the Minister of the Year – Distinguished Public Service Icon Award; Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Chris Ona Najomo, who received the Lifetime Achievement in Aviation Award; and Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, who was honoured with the Lifetime Award for Customs Reforms. Other honourees included Senator Neda Imaseun, Aishatu Baju (AIG), Dr. Erasmus Ekpang, Dr. Daniel Newman and Alhaji Sadiq Kashim, while a posthumous award was presented in honour of the late Raymond Dokpesi.
The Personality of the Year award further underscores Sydney-Jack’s growing influence in Nigeria’s media and public advocacy space. Her continued work on women’s inclusion, leadership and social development has her as one of the prominent voices shaping conversations on inclusive governance and national development.
