Imo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Federal University of Technology, Owerri -CeSPESS, for more partnership with the organization.

Signing the MOU on behalf of the state government in his Office, The Secretary to the Imo State Government, Chief Cosmos Iwu described the Project as important landmark that will ease the financial burden of the state government.

He disclosed that education advancement of Imo people is paramount to the present administration, and it was the reason the governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma established a Digital Center where graduates are being trained on Digital Economy, to enable them become self-employed.

Chief Iwu asserted that the state government attaches importance on procurement issues and it would do everything possible to ensure sustainability of Futo-CeSPESS for the benefits of Imo people.

He therefore commended the Director of the Center and his management team for initiating and running such a wonderful program.

Speaking, Director General, Bureau for Public Procurement and Price Intelligence, Chief Kelechi GiftGod Doro described the signing of MOU as the great achievement for Imo people. He maintained that the Center for Excellence was the only center that certifies procurement officers to become professionals, stressing that everything in procurement sustainable environment has been sealed by the department for the next four to five years.

He added that whatever that needed to be done in terms of procurement would be done by the Center with no cost effect.

The Director of Futo-CeSPESS, Prof Chris Nwokobi, disclosed that the center is a global training center, being funded by World Bank and supported by NUC and FUTO happens to be the only Center in the entire South East.

He said that the Center had been training some staff of various ministries and Chairmen and Staff of Local Government Areas on issue of procurement free of charge, adding that they thought it wise to enter MOU with the State Housing, FUTO, so that their works would be properly documented, and the people will maximally benefit from the training.

Dr Nwokobi said the Center operates an open door policy and was able to coordinate and enjoy mutual benefits.

While throwing more light on issues pertaining Procurement,Prof J.N Ogbulie, Deputy Director Sustainable Social Development Ce-SPESS , said procurement has both social and environmental challenges and once they are overcome, it brings about good governance.
